    it was a matter of life and death.
    they survived, hence the celebration.

    we would do well to understand the situation back then, instead of making fun of it.

    but yes.
    our immigrant relatives across the ocean celebrated their first thanksgiving with a roast turkey.
    by xmas, it was still there in the ref.
    and new year.
    and valentine's.
    no one complained when it had mysteriously disappeared by Easter.

    i like turkey with the fixin's.
    without fixin's, turkey is just one big tasteless mass of fowl meat.
