When it comes to ice cream, the biggest tragedies for me were the following:

    1. When Magnolia House closed down for good

    2. When Camp John Hay was turned over to the Pinoys, thus closing down the Ice Cream Parlor on Scout Hill and the 19th Tee.

    3. When Selecta discontinued the Twister Pops (Lemon Trio).

    That's another classic.

I used to get that and some Bubble Gum ice cream from the Coney Island store along Katipunan Ave. (after buying comics at Filbars). :D

why do I have the feeling that they're not totally closing down. kawawa naman talaga mga na-pride na companies ngaun oh. Kunsabagay slashing down prices could mean bankruptcy, pero at this age, ibaba nyo na Lang, deflation or close down for the ma-pride companies. The bubble is bursting for premium prices.

the success of milk teas ang pumatAy dito eh. I believe even Starbucks, CBTL, SBC are in danger of milk tea craze.

Na-observe ko na Ito eh, chatime can have an average 5x times the customer in an hour vs. Starbucks. So say Starbucks have 30 customers in an hour times say average of 140 per drink - P 4200 / hour.

    Sa chatime, 150 customers x 80 per drink - 12000 / hour.

This is in mall setting where mataas ang walk-in.

Starbucks has to provide a cozy ambiance, a posh interior design, more mall real estate, a CR and coffee drinkers stay 2-3 hours for just one drink (social climbers).

And blended coffee now is considered unhealthy ang fattening as compared to health benefit of tea.

By marginal utillity, mas Madaming iba'r ibang type of drinks ang chatime and other milk teas compared to SB na halos puros coffee based and whip-based.

I see a correction of the market soon

    ganyan din observation ko OB

milk tea is eating into the business of coffee shops

yung hundred bucks per day ko napupunta sa milk tea instead of coffee

multiply that by the number of people with similar spending behavior
