TNT’S GAME 1 WIN FORFEITED
ASI BARRED FROM PLAYING

Talk N Text coach Joel Banal anticipates the Ginebra Kings to be more energized and aggressive in Game Two of the titular series for the Gran Matador-PBA Philippine Cup.
"There's a lot of things he can do and I know Siot (Tanquingcen) knows that. So I won't be surprised if they (Ginebra) try something new on Wednesday," Banal proclaimed after the Phone Pals' 89-71 victory in Game 1 Sunday.
Ginebra officials placed Game One under protest and PBA commissioner Noli Eala handed out his decision late Tuesday night that should shift the pressure on the Phone Pals.
Taking into account the circumstances that surrounded Game One, Eala nullified TNTs victory and now the Phone Pals find themselves trailing the Kings in the best-of-seven series instead.
Game Two is scheduled at 7:10 p.m. on Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Ginebra's protest and Eala's decision dwell mainly on Asi Taulava, who has been serving his suspension since Oct. 19, 2004 after the Department of Justice withdrew the Confirmation of Citizenship of the TNT star and five other Fil-foreign players.
But TNT officials defied the league's decision by letting Taulava, who claimed to be a Fil-Tongan, suit up and play last Sunday on the strength of a court ruling ordering Eala to reinstate Taulava.
Eala did not oppose the move to avoid contempt of court and not spoil the series opener although he warned that TNT will have to face the consequence.
In his decision, the league commissioner agreed with the contention of Ginebra that Taulava is ineligible to play because he is serving his suspension at the time the Commissioner's Office set the deadline for team's to change their line ups. Teams were allowed to change their rosters until Jan 14 and Taulava obtained the court ruling only last Jan. 26.
Eala also stressed that the court order "can only have prospective effect as soon as it becomes final and executory." At the moment the PBA is still awaiting the decision on its motion for reconsideration.
"For the reason stated herein above, Mr. Taulava is not allowed to play in any PBA game until he has been reinstated to the status of an eligible player in accordance with the PBA rules," Eala said in his decision.
Even without Taulava, the Phone Pals should remain a solid force with Jimmy Alapag, Willie Miller, Mark Telan and Vic Pablo in their best element.
Whether Taulava plays or not in Game 2, Ginebra coach Siot Tanquingcen guaranteed his chargers will go out with a lot more intensity.
"All we have to do is minimized our errors," said Tanquingcen, who readily pointed to their 24 turnovers in Game 1 as the cause of their defeat. "We beat them soundly off the boards but we gave up too many points because of our carelessness."
Already depleted with the absence of Jayjay Helterbrand, who may be out for the rest of the series with a calf injury, big men Rommel Adducul and Andy Seigle added up to the woes of the Kings in Game 1 by being in foul trouble early, something they must avoid in Game Two. (DBC)
