Very tragic accident happened today at the SLEX Skyway. I was in deep shock to learn this..
3 kids, aged 10, 10 & 5 y/o, seated at the back not strapped on their seatbelts died when they were thrown out of the car by the impact of the crash.. And sadly the driver also succumbed to her injuries.. My deepest condolences to their Families..
RIP.

It's weird that they could readily conclude that the accident was caused by over-speeding. Even when driving within the SCTEX legal speed limit of 80-100kph, almost any tall vehicle has a potential to flip over when mishandled... and Fortuners, for one, are a bit top-heavy.

ok
driving at low speed, hit concrete barrier, roll over and over, passengers ejected from vehicle
driving at low speed, tire blew out, hit concrete barrier, roll over and over, passengers ejected from vehilce
yeah, makes more sense

How fast is fast? In one of the reports they mentioned that the vehicle was probably at 100 kph which in my opinion is not reckless. Skyway tends to be clear on Sundays and I assume that other vehicles were travelling at that speed as well.
There's just a disconnect for me thinking of a mother or lady driver with children as passengers driving recklessly. I also don't wanna think that they are correct about the stereotype on fortuner drivers (black at that).
It's so offensive how the police would make hasty statements without even conducting a thorough investigation.Last edited by _Cathy_; May 19th, 2010 at 01:26 PM.

people are looking for another cause coz it's too horrible to accept
it's the familiarity
a Fortuner, a lady, small kids -- dami dito naka Fortuner, meron wife, small kids
and it's coz of the proximity -- skyway lang
many of us use the skyway
if this happened somewhere in Tawi Tawi, we wouldnt see emotional outbursts like this
BTW, why dont we see reactions like this pag may namatay sa motorbike accident?
coz they deserve it?
galit kasi mga car users sa mga naka motor?
pero pag naka fortuner, all of a sudden, coz we can identify with it, we can empathize, we get all emotional?Last edited by uls; May 19th, 2010 at 01:39 PM.

You have to consider that a Fortuner weighs more than a Corolla. So at the same speed (example 100 kph), the Fortuner will still have more kinetic energy than the Corolla.

Dunno if this pertained to my post. Overspeeding, by definition is driving beyond the legal speed limit. 100kph in SLEX/Skyway/SCTEX is not overspeeding. But the point I was trying to arrive at is the inherent flaw on the vehicle's stability. So even if the Fortuner was running 90-100kph (hence, not overspeeding), it's still prone to tip over.
Even its brother, the Hilux, which shares almost all components with the Fortuner, failed the "Moose" or Child Evasion test. The test, I believe is done at 90kph... which is well within the legal speed limit in most of our highways.
