Why are there people who are fond of changing their cars from one model to another? Is it just a habbit? Can u call them car lover? or simply they have the privilege to change their cars to have the satisfaction of having a ride on a car they dream to drive...

Cars are consumer goods and they have planned obsolesence built into them. That's why the product cycle of a vehicle is typically 4 years (the L300 Versa Van's almost 20 year existence in the local market is more of an exception).

Some people who buy a car already have a set time table in their mind when they will replace it. My mom's friend sells the vehicle as soon as it reaches the 5 year old mark. No, she's not an enthusiast. She sells them because she is afraid the car might start to have problems soon.

Most enthusiasts who do work on their own cars are not that easy to separate from their machines.

Some buy cars without test driving. Saka lang nila malalaman na hindi pala nila gusto...

[special mention dito ang Fortuner at Patrol ]

i've got friends who pour a lot of money (tens of thousands of dollars) into their cars; spend a lot of time tuning their cars into perfection only to sell it a few months later without recouping their expenses (some sell the modifications at a discount to recoup some of the original expenses). what was their motivation? it was the satisfaction of watching their cars transform into something different from the day it left the showroom floors. sort of like watching your child grow. then once the child becomes an adult, you let him go. i was like my friends. spend, build, sell (or part out). now that i'm married and will soon have a kid, the money pit had to be covered.

Don't forget those who buy, fix/repair a bit, and sell.

me too. actually most of my friends when i was in my early 20's had this addiction. nahihilo ako sa kanila sa laki ng ginagastos nila - all their discretionary income and credit card spending went to cars...then they would get bored and lose tens of thousands of dollars selling the cars and the accessories.

tempting na makipagsabayan sa kanila because their cars were truly rolling works of art. but i chose to invest my money in the market and in a masters degree so i couldn't afford it.

i wised up. i did all of that when i got a good job right after college (kinakantyawan nila ako noong beat up car pa ang wheels ko). some of my friends on the other hand did it while still working part time and going to school full time......the hobby became an addiction then became a distraction to their studies, because they had to attend various car shows all over the country....

If the purpose is to show off, deep inside lungkot nila kasi wala na masyado cash --- pag medium class.

Pero if THEY need it, say wala na natirang auto sa bahay kasi gamit lahat. Ung iba na papalit palit ng auto nakikihiram lang sa parents :D

Sakin ok lang yun as long as you still do your OBLIGATIONS to your family. If you're single and paying everything on your own, that's something. Pero wag na ipilit pag di kaya. Parang sa babae, sa kakapilit mo mawawala na lang basta. Sa kotse naman hahatakin ng banko pag naka-loan hehehehehe

i know some people who change cars often because they're given a car allowance by the company every 5 years..

also some companies give company cars to their management and allow them to buy the fully depreciated value of the vehicle after several years. after that they're issued another vehicle of their choice (subject to a budget of course).

we dont usually let our cars that long. usually 5 years maximum.. palit ulit. depende lang kung may sentimental value yung kotse kaya tumatagal sa amin.. hindi naman kami bumibili ng sasakyan na hindi namin gusto and pinagisipan mabuti. ewan ko lang sa iba kung bakit gusto nila palaging sabay sa kung anung bago.. impulsive buyer kung baga..
