I've seen and heard an LPG explosion before and it there are no cracking sounds before, during or after an explosion. It's just a loud BOOM plus the sound of buckling metal.

Based also from the extent of the damage I've seen sa news, the blast was too powerful for even two large LPG tanks. The explosion was also directed upwards, if it were gas it would have been concentrated sidewards. I really hope that my hunch is wrong because this is freaking scary.

Malapit pa naman ang pasko at marami ang magpupuntahan sa mall.

I also doubt that the explosion was caused by and LPG leak. I'm watching the news on ABS-CBN now. There was even a video (from a cellphone) immediately after the explosion, inside the mall! Scary!

Update from ABS-CBN. C4 bomb daw yung cause ng blast.

Reuters reported that police sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said traces of C4 plastic explosives were found at the location. The bomb appeared to have been left near a cellphone repair shop at the bottom of an escalator, they said.

Philippine National Police chief Avelino Razon earlier debunked reports that the blast that hit Glorietta 2 ground level at 1:30 p.m. was caused by a gas leak.

"This was a bomb. But beyond that we can't say anything else yet because we are still investigating. What I can say is it was not [liquefied petroleum gas] that caused this," Razon told reporters.

That makes sense, based on the pics. But I think it was GMA7 that just reported the blast came from Luk Yuen stock room?

R.I.P. to the victims. Let's pray for them and their families.

I hope the effect won't hit our economy hard. Even if the peso's value drops, it would be even seen as good for the economy. The goverment has been trying to slow the rise of the peso. If they pin the blame on the Abus, the effect won't be that long. Remember the bus bombings in Makati?
