We pay them to work, so as long as they do their jobs well, they can wear whatever they like.![]()
maid ng kapitbahay namin towel lang lagi ang suot -- and I think she's proud of her "uniform" lalo na pag si sir lang ang nasa bahay hehehe - summer na talaga sobrang init na dito...
si sir ba naka boxer shorts lang din. then that is what i call "genuine" empathy. weather is so cruel sometimesOriginally Posted by Luap

how about body guards required to wear barongs? discrimination din ba yan because it could mean discrimination/differentiation? or hindi kasi mahal ang barong? LOL
OT: You know what's ironic about bodyguards wearing barongs?Originally Posted by BlueBimmer
The barong was originally thought to discourage would-be Filipino insurrectionists from carrying concealed weapons under their clothing.

hehehe
kano mentality na kasi si BoyFerrari. diba mga kano sa workplace very sensitive sa mga equality ng gender, race, itsura or kung may physical disability etc...
they have this thing called affirmative action. Alam ni BoyFerrari yan.
that explains his perception.

It really doesn't matter whether it's American mentality or Japanese mentality or whatever. If the concept or idea makes sense, then why not adopt it? People in our company treat each other equally not because they fear of getting sued. They treat each other equally because that's the right thing to do. It makes sense to me.Originally Posted by uls
Personally, ito nga ang tanong ko: Will it harm or embarrass your family kung pupunta kayo sa mall kasama yung maid pero she's wearing civilian attire like the rest of your family members? I mean the maid can wear anything decent and casual and cheap --- but why have her wear something na kailangan pa talagang "obvious" maid uniform? Why the need to attract attention? Why not just try to blend with the crowd? Baka itakbo nung maid yung anak mo? Nah, I don't buy that reason. But i'm not saying that's bad. Everyone is entitled to his reasons.
By the way, my company is a subsidiary here in the Philippines.
Which is why I hate missing one day in tsikot. Humahaba yung babasahin ko just to catch up with the topic. hehehe.
oohhhh too much emotion and energy in just one topic. "Maid's uniform." cool lang kayo. Kaya humahaba tong topic na to, kase both sides are trying very hard to convince or justify kumbaket may uniform o wala ang maid nila.
Honganaman, I was about to ask the same thing. I mean, baket nga naman nde civilian attire na lang sa public. As much as i do not see anything wrong with wearing a uniform, since uniform could also mean "work" clothes... it is also reasonable to just let the maid wear civilian clothing outside since they're technically not "working"?Originally Posted by BoyFerrari

Wow! very interesting thread. sapul din ako dito. i always see that the "masters" who have their servants in uniform were "elitist". but frm the post, its more of a functional part rather than a personal thing. and lahat naman ok intentions sa maid wether naka uniform or or not. Cheers to all
pinoys call their superiors at work Bossing or Boss or Sir or Maam... out of respect.
Americans interpret it as inequality.
So u end up having american kids calling their dads by their first name...
(Example: Bart Simpson calling his dad Homer) i know its a cartoon but that happens in real life.
Parang may mali diba?

Iba kasi ang WORKPLACE saka FAMILY.Originally Posted by uls
Anyway, going back sa maid -- sabi ko nga there are people who look at the family as a "workplace" for the maid. While others treat their maid as one of their own, almost like a family member too. Dual category ang treatment ng Filipinos sa maid. Anyway, I already explained the difference earlier.
baka takot lang silang masabihan na mas mukang amo pa yung katulong nila kesa sa kanila. Lets admit it, hindi naman lahat ng katulong pangit. Kaya nila pinagbibihis ng uniform is to let other people know who the boss is. I get to observe a lot of people in church, the reality is sometimes mas maayos pa ang itsura ng katulong kesa sa amo, napapagkamalan pa ngang katulong minsan yung amo na nanay eh. My point is minsan insecurities play a big role in this.
