Diba GMA is promoting the use of ethanol?

Hindi ba maka affect yan sa price ng food?

I mean.. ethanol producers will be buying food crops (sugar, corn etc)

So they will push up prices of those commodities.

Diba livestock feed is made of corn or whatever food crop?

so if the price of livestock feed goes up, price of beef, pork, chicken, dairy, poultry stuff will go up. tama ba?

So for our demand for lower fuel price, ang kapalit higher food price?

yup, corn prices are going up as we speak. di ko lang sure sa quality of ethanol produced, but there are other alternatives like jatropha and sorghum(although technically this is a food crop).

still, these crops do tend to take up agricultural space and resources.

ewan ko lang if cellulosic ethanol is the answer. it's supposed to use agricultural wastes to produce ethanol. pero not sure if anyone's doing it on a commercial scale, or if it's feasible to do so.

Well, added demand on sources for ethanol fuel will eventually lead to increase in production of such. And that will lead to increases in the circulation of money in the local market which is good for the economy. Generally food will not be affected (well, just a bit).

With our countrys' track record seriously doubt that.

Before that will happen, the prices of the affected commodities will rise incredibly. Prices of corn in the last 2 yrs have increased from P9.00 per kilo to P13.00 per kilo, and might go as high as P16.00 per kilo before the year ends.

We also import onion, garlic, rice, chicken, apples...... we even import playboy. so it's going to be a no biggie if we prioritize our car fetish before our nations food supply.

its nice to hear that ethanol thing hear at tsikot. i've been trying to to do a thesis about ethanol. more on the economic and environmental impacts.

at first glance kasi mukang answer talaga siya sa madaming problema natin related to fossil fuel (air pollution, fluctuating oil supply, etc.). pero if we really analyze the whole thing, the benefits may not be that big compared to costs. of course, ndi pa yan proven dito sa pinas that is why meron ako balak na thesis hehehe

sa pinas ata ay galing sa sugarcane or molasses ang ethanol not like sa states na sa grains like corn etc galing ang ethanol.

kung sugarcane ang gagamitin, tataas ang price of sugar. And almost every food and beverage product uses sugar.

Kung coconut oil ang gagamitin, what is our cooking oil made of? Hindi ba coconut oil?

So we the food consumers will be competing with ethanol producers for the same stuff.

Increased demand caused by ethanol production will drive up the prices of those commodities.

mas mabilis and mas direct ung effect nyan hindi ba?

ethanol from sugarcane is actually from molasses and bagasse. these two are by-products of the sugar making process. so dapat ndi tataas ang presyo ng sugar due to ethanol kasi ndi naman maapektuhan ang mismong volume of sugar being produced.

dun sa coco-diesel naman, baka nga may trade-offs na mangyari between using it as fuel and using at raw materials for soap, cooking oil etc.

so mag- ihaw na lang imbes na prito para tipid sa cooking oil. wag na maligo after mag ihaw para tipid sa sabon. then nwasa juice na lang ang inumin. hehehe

there's a small article in today's inquirer about an alternative plant for ethanol. a book was also mentioned in it -- "Handbook of Energy Crops". It might come in handy for your thesis dude B)

China last year announce that it will invest US$1B (or was it $2B?) here in the Phils. to grow corn to be processed into fuel. I'm just not sure if the processing will be done here in the country or the harvested corn will be shipped back to China for processing.

Di ba nila naisip? Re: Ethanol
