Diba GMA is promoting the use of ethanol?

Hindi ba maka affect yan sa price ng food?

I mean.. ethanol producers will be buying food crops (sugar, corn etc)

So they will push up prices of those commodities.

Diba livestock feed is made of corn or whatever food crop?

so if the price of livestock feed goes up, price of beef, pork, chicken, dairy, poultry stuff will go up. tama ba?

So for our demand for lower fuel price, ang kapalit higher food price?

yup, corn prices are going up as we speak. di ko lang sure sa quality of ethanol produced, but there are other alternatives like jatropha and sorghum(although technically this is a food crop).

still, these crops do tend to take up agricultural space and resources.

ewan ko lang if cellulosic ethanol is the answer. it's supposed to use agricultural wastes to produce ethanol. pero not sure if anyone's doing it on a commercial scale, or if it's feasible to do so.

Well, added demand on sources for ethanol fuel will eventually lead to increase in production of such. And that will lead to increases in the circulation of money in the local market which is good for the economy. Generally food will not be affected (well, just a bit).

We also import onion, garlic, rice, chicken, apples...... we even import playboy. so it's going to be a no biggie if we prioritize our car fetish before our nations food supply.

the effect would be minimal compared to increase in oil price in which masmalaki ang itaas ng price ng food...
