I was raving about my A70 and how it had all the features I wanted at the price I was willing to spend... Had it for two years.

And then last week the display image became blurred. Pictures were also blurred.

My wife brought it to the service center at P. Tamo, and the way it was explained is that they were "expecting" the CCD to malfunction in 1 or 2 years. Some factory defect I guess. I don't know if this is limited to the A70 or the entire Axx line.

I've got to hand it to Canon though, they were willing to lend a service unit, an A520. The catch was that the replacement parts are arriving in December.

My only problems with this arrangement are: 1) the A520 uses an SD/MMC card. I only have CFs. 2) we can't wait until December, we'll be in the US, and according to Canon, only their Asian centers can fix the problem. Don't know if this is because my camera was purchased in Asia or because the US centers are not equipped to fix the A70.

Baka lang may A series din kayo, and you encounter the same problem...

Ang estimate ng service center is about 6k pesos. It means may mukhang may factory defect yata talaga yung A series ng canon na yun.

My Elura50 videocam had a busted CCD 3 weeks ago. brought it to Canon service center. at first i was told that if ang CCD ang sira, it would cost me around 5K excluding labor. but when i got my unit after 2 weeks, walang charge sa parts and labor. out of warranty na ang videocam ko.

kaya for those na meron mga ganitong models, Axx and Elura, dalhin nyo na sa Canon para mapalitan na ang CCD. malapit na ang christmas, baka dun pa bumigay mga cameras nyo, sayang naman.
