In my case, alam kong burned out na ako pag:
1.) Not even a droplet of a creative idea or solution pops in my head
2.) Kagigising ko pa lang, lethargic na ako
3.) Can't sleep well at night.
4.) Madali akong nagsasawa kahit anong ginagawa ko.
How to cope? Simple lang akin - I take a leave of absence or do something that has absolutely no relation to the project/work that I was doing when I crashed and burned. However, each of us is a different person so IMO we all have different burn-out symptoms and ways of avoiding it.
How to avoid? In my line of work, malabo kase if I avoid, I'd be out of the job.

Burnout? Usually pakiramdam mo sawa ka na sa daily routine mo, lalo na sa trabaho.....I'm already mid-40's and I could say that I could really feel it now but then I'm not sure if it's really Burnout or Mid-Life Crisis.......

Typical symptoms: loud noise, smell of burned rubber, and lots of smoke.
Coping strategies: get new tires
Seriously though, if you are mentally exhausted, try a simple mathematical "quiz" you know the answer to already but test yourself for speed, it shouldn't take longer than what you're used to. If you can't focus, if you stay on one topic at a time and then realize you're not thinking straight tapos balik ka sa same topic, etc...
Or are you asking about long term stress? Check your blood pressure din, baka tumaas na.

I know I'm burned out career wise when I don't give s*#t about my job anymore because I don't feel I am growing as a person anymore. That's also about 5 years into a job that I start to feel that way and start looking for another line of work.

i have a fast paced, high stress job. i think i feel symptoms of burnout once or twice a week.
how do i cope?
1. go home early and play
2. work out
3. drive fast with the music up and the windows/sunroof open
4. have :***:
when i go back to what i was doing often i see that i have new energy and a solution to the problem has presented itself.
