You have a 3 quart and a 5 quart bottles, and an infinite supply of water. How can you measure out exactly 4 quarts of water?

1. fill the 3 quart bottle and transer its contents to the 5 quart bottle
2. fill the 3 quart bottle and transfer its contents again to the 5 quart bottle
this leaves you with a quart of water in the 3 quart bottle.
3. throw away or take out the water in the 5 quart bottle and transfer the
1 quart water from the 3 quart bottle to the bigger bottle
4. fill the 3 quart bottle again and transfer it to the 5 quart botle. now you
now you have 4 quarts of water in the 5 quart bottle.

3. Empty the 3 quart bottle

5. Fill-up 5 quart bottle again.
6. Transfer out 1 quart of water from the 5 quart bottle into the 3 quart bottle containing 2 quarts water. Now you have 4 quarts of water in the 5 quart bottle.

1. fill the 3 quart bottle to the brim
2. fill the 5 quart bottle with the water from the 3 quart bottle
3. fill the 3 quart bottle to the brim
4. fill the 5 quart bottle to the brim from the water in the 3 quart bottle, leaving 1 quart in the 3 quart bottle
5. empty the 5 quart bottle
6. pour the 1 quart of water from the 3 quart to the 5 quarts bottle
7. fill the 3 quart bottle up and pour in the 5 quart bottle, leaving 4 quarts
