I hope you won't get offended Cathy but from the management's perspective, generally it is ok to go home at six pm on the dot if you reported for work at 9 am on the dot as well.

The item I was waitlisted for several months went out of stock 36 minutes from the time they sent me an email notice that it is available!!! What the hell!
Don't you have standard operating procedures at work that clearly state shift hours? If you don't, perhaps it's a good project to do. Where I work, if you stay too long, they make you leave....depending on who the shift supervisor is. But, the shift hours are clearly stated on the SOPs and everyone is supposed to abide by them.

We do. Our working hours are stated in the JD. But then if there is a deadline, you have no choice but to stay until it is finished. My boss knows there is no way in hell I am going to work on a holiday or a weekend but I have colleagues who do (some for free/ no overtime)
We also get projects and reports that have deadlines. But, we have the choice of waiting until the next day to continue the project or we take our work home with us and collaborate online. Either way, we go home when we're supposed to go home.
Our projects are normally too big to be done in one day. Deadlines are usually a few days to weeks. So, that's probably one thing that's different here.
We have an upcoming audit that's why my bosses are scrambling to get things done
I think you're preparing for a quarterly audit. I would recommend preparing ahead of time for the next one. Probably by December so you'd have more time to prepare and lesser OT hours.
And tell your boss to give you ample time or inform you ahead of time when there are upcoming audits.
Bro.,- this is the Philippines.
And, work conditions and expectations are a lot different than what people do and require in Corporate America....
In our head office in CA,- Friday,- 2PM, ghost town..... Regular day at 4PM, eerily quiet....
And people starts trickling in at 8AM, with almost all of them coming in 9AM, earliest...
Here,- almost all,- in by 8AM, or earlier.... And almost everyone on call....

It's not that different for us. The incoming shift workers should be here 15 minutes prior to their shifts starting so they and the outgoing shift can conduct a proper and thorough shift change. The outgoing guys should be relieved and ready to head out the door by the start of the next hour. No matter what weekday it is, no one leaves early. Day shift people go home at 4 PM sharp. Swing shift folks stay until it's time to close shop.
Depending on severity of workload, the shift supervisor can either kick out employees who aren't working and just hanging around or send home employees on very slow days. Or, stick with the SOPs and make everyone stay to avoid squabbles.
Each shift have several checklists that require daily accomplishment plus those that that are done weekly and monthly. Quarterly and longer interval tasks are usually the domain of managers. The data they need are already covered in the checklists. We already have documents prepped for all those stuff. Fill em in with new data and save as a new file in the proper naming convention.
