Hi All!
If this is true then it sucks!
When the building directly beside our warehouse in Quezon City caught fire, the volunteers were the only things that were standing between the fire and all of our inventory.
Thanks to them, the day was saved.
The local government yokels didn't arrive until the fire was over, they broke into the office even if the fire didn't reach there but since it was already empty (we moved our main office) they stooped so low as to steal the offerings on the altar we had there!
Not only that, they asked for cash to stay over "to make sure that the fire doesn't start up again"
The volunteers didn't ask for anything but we treated all the responding units to a lunch in a show of appreciation.
To show the efficiency of the local government fire fighters, or lack thereof, remember the fire in Manila at the election office thingie?
Well I saw the building the next day and only a small corner office was "spared"
The local government firestation was a couple of feet away!
Go figure.
The government must first improve or change the image of BFP before banning the Volunteer Fire brigade.

anyone watch the news on teevee patrol tonight??? willard cheng did a news about it... maybe they'll show it again on bandila...
of all the plans of BF, this is the most stupid and illogical one!
kudos to the volunteer fire brigade.
I'm a volunteer fire fighter myself, and I think banning us volunteers will make life harder for the government fire fighters. During the '70's '80's and early '90's when there are only few volunteer groups, fires usually lasts more than an hour and are mostly in the "task force" alarm stage. Having volunteers help put out fires save lives and properties.
If plans push through, there will be a rally on August 20 in front of the MMDA.
watched the TV PAtrol news and according to the report MMDA is not really planning to ban the volunteer firefighters. they just want them to be under the supervision of the bureau of fire protection especially during actual fire incidents.
napansin ata ng BFP na minsan merong ndi tama dun sa pagpatay ng sunog ng mga volunteers. his example involves burning chemicals and other hazardous materials.
the president of the association of volunteer firefighter acknowledged naman that they are really should be under BFP. they just want to be allowed to respond to emergency fire situations even outside their jurisdiction.
sana maayos na agad ito. malaing tulong talaga yang mga volunteers. pero syempre dapat meron din guidelines or protocol to follow para smooth ang operations ng volunteers at BFP.
so this confirmed! not a hearsay anymore.....
oh well....
sabi lang niya yun , nasa teevee siya e... hehehe... bf's plan, as gleaned from the memo is totally ban fire volunteer brigades in responding to fire calls...Originally Posted by fortheboys96

imagine this scene, fire alarm at a high rise bldg in makati : 14thfloor is full of smoke... bfp on 13th floor don't have smoke gears... can't come up to the 14th due to the smoke... volunteer comes in scba (self contained breathing apparatus), what does the bfp say? "wag kayo dito, bawal ang naka BA (breathing apparatus) dito!" tama ba yun??? san ka nakakita sunog na bawal BA e dapat nga standard yun... besides, it would help firefighters to quickly put out the blaze because they can find where exactly the fire is, not the way bfp does it, just pumping water blindly in the smoke!
i remember a few years back, nagka firecall sa banko sentral ng pilipinas, dalawang oras na, di pa mapasok, bakit? mausok e... dating si volunteer na may BA, napasok, nakita nila na isang room lang pala ang nasusunog... binuhusan lang ng timba, patay ang sunog!
sabi sa news article, wala daw gamit na chemicals ang mga volunteer pampatay ng sunog that needs chemical (foam we call it).. panong wala.. baka bfp wala kasi binebenta nila sa volunteer!!!
the president merely said that volunteers are already under the jurisdiction of the bfp... and he said that volunteers be allowed to respond outside their jurisdiction because the memo limits them to their immediate area.. kung san ka nakaparada, dun ka lang magaantay ng sunog.. tama ba yun??the president of the association of volunteer firefighter acknowledged naman that they are really should be under BFP. they just want to be allowed to respond to emergency fire situations even outside their jurisdiction.

imagine this : whenever there is a fire in makati or san juan and volunteers arrive first... what bfp fire units do when they come is that they try, as much as possible, at all cost, to put their trucks in front of the volunteer truck.. sagasaan na ang sasagasaan.. why??? coz when the mayor comes and see na naunahan sila ng volunteer, tanggal allowance nila...![]()
sos,
if you want change, compile everything that is written here and send a letter to BF. :D
I hope BF would reconsider and check the facts that led him to come up with this idea.
He is an intelligent person and action man at that but this kind of thing requires thorough thinking since this involves everyone's safety. While it is true that some volunteer firefighters are there for the wrong reason, there must be a way to flush them out of the noble force.
I have been a volunteer fire-ems member for more than 10 years now, and through it all, i could say that the experience was all worth it. The t-shirts that I managed to collect over the years pretty much sums up what we trade our pristine hours of sleep and most valauable family bonding time for: Fight Fires and Save Lives, We MUST be NUTS!
Due to the recent turn of events, I remember yet another t-shirt that i had a few years back, printed on it was the question: WHAT IF VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS DID NOT VOLUNTEER? Indeed, what if we volunteers cease to exist? In Metro Manila, as in the various provinces of our country, the citizenry rely much on the volunteers selfless service in fighting fires and saving lives. We have been pictured as people that they can rely on in cases of emergencies, not only during fires but in other cases live MVA's, earthquakes, bombings, etc. In all of my years of responding to such calls there was never money involved, our ultimate high was the simple "Thank You's" that we get after every run, realizing that we had helped in our own little way only made the desire to learn how we can further help in the future to always burn within our hearts and minds.
The move of some persons through an agency to seek control of volunteer firefighter groups operation is totally uncalled for in such dire times. We, the volunteers, exist in an intricate yet subtle balance. They claim that volunteers responding to emergencies and those in the fire ground or the scene of the accindent are more of a nuisance than that of help. How can that be? I'm sure all of the volunteers would be one in saying that the reason why we all responded was simply "to help". There was never the motive to be recognized, to be given accolades by any agency or the government for that matter, we never seek rewards, we never seek fame nor recognition, we are there to HELP.
In my more than a decade of being in the volunteer fire service, it is quite true that there are bickerings that arise from some misunderstandings that result from the hotness that surrounds us during fire ground operations, accusations of not being supplied by a certain brigade was prety common, but was always quickly resolved by explanations of both parties. Isn't it that the most important thing is to get the job done, to put out the fire as quickly as possible without incurring additional loss to life or property? They say that the volunteer fire service is not united becasue of this fact. Well if their view of not being united is the fact that there are more than four (4) so called MOTHER UNITS or ZHONG HUE, then they might be right. How can the volunteers be united in the eyes of an observer if there are numerous ZHONG HUE's around right? They might have a point, but then again why did the volunteer fire service spring up in the first place? Because of our desire to HELP. and this is what unites the Zhong Hue's and all the volunteer fire service men and women in the country.
Volunteer fire units were not organized to completely replace the government units, they were formed to augment them, but more importantly to serve as the first line of defense of the community until they arrive. We are always open to coordination in fire scenes, on how to fight the dragon before it spreads and wreak havoc. Yet, there are those who say things about some things that they don't completely understand. We do not claim that we are better since we are better equipped than they do or our fire apparatus has more sirens and lights than they can possibly have, no, what we do is do our share in fighting the fire, of supplying water to the ones in front, we each do our part to fight the fire, that is the most improtant thing. Sadly, some people have a different narrow minded view.
The volunteers have their share of lives lost, we too have some of our properties, loved ones taken from us by the beast, but still we respond to the calls we receive every day, without any assurance of returning home in one piece to our families, why? because we want to HELP.
We share this common goal, and we also have our responsibilty to the community, we cannot just be suddenly "not there". Yes, we have sentiments about the issue, some of us are even outraged by it, but again, the community relies on us. They have the right to know, for if we want to be united, then we must have the force of the community behind us. For it is the community that we serve, and not some of the people in some air-conditioned agencies. I hope that the leaders of this different Zhong Hue's do come up with a united stand on the issue, because we are all afffected, not one, but the whole volunteer fire service.
WHAT IF VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTERS DID NOT VOLUNTEER? I think its high time that they find out, and let the community answer this question in front of them. Volunteers, let us unite, and GOD be with us always.
Any link to the actual proposal of BF?
Still puro hearsay & speculation ang naka post dito.
But it was in the TV news last week.
