Automated sliding is more durable & more secure than swing. Where conditions permit, a number we've done had 1 leaf in manual swing while the other is auto-slide. Width of each leaf should ideally be wider than that of SUVs.

Only do basic design/specs & work w/ a proven specialist for R&D & execution for those. Recently did a neat 2 leaf same-direction slide w/ a concealed 'follower' system due to space limits that couldn't accommodate 1 long gate.1motor pulls to open/close both panels.

Sliding is far more reliable than swing, especially for wide spans.. Avoid bi-fold gates as much as possible as it eventually sags. Con for sliding is that it needs to be perfectly level at the track and debris need to be cleaned from the track once in a while.

Im doing a detail for a telescoping sliding gate now, its vastly more complex than a single panel sliding gate, also im concerned about the speed

Did the telescopic w/ covered side mounted cables & pulleys recently. Works like a charm. Just need to be precise w/ plans & execution to have vertical stiles aligned how you wish them.
The tracks, solid round rod would be smoothest...add along a self draining/cleaning mini trench(red arrow) to catch/drain water at the ends & out the driveway. 20230730_113528.jpg
