It may look guly but it can still serve its purpose plus it was my father's so it's kinda sentimental so I'll definitely keep this and take care of it. I contacted my cousin and its already okay for her to ship to me the stuff I'm gonna buy this year in her annuan balikabayan box to my aunt.

My question is okay ba Gerber knives from Blade HQ?

Okay din siya. Hmmm... if you can spare a couple more bucks you can try this one: SOG Fusion Salute Tactical Folding Knife (3.625" Black Plain) FF-11 - Blade HQ

same weight, longer blade and it uses a lock back mechanism instead of frame lock. but that's just me.
Damn, son! Where'd you find this?

Dito sa bahay we have a small room kung saan kami nag store ng canned foods, mga preserve fruits at water. stored is coleman coolers for easy pick up na rin. for security, i have two handguns, an automatic shotgun and a rifle and all three members of my family know how to use the handgun. a survival kit composed of a tanto blade, led flashlight, sterile bandages, alcohol preps, all around tool kit and a lighter. then yung dalawa naming auto may dala laging gas can. a 10 liter one for the OTJ and two 10 liter for the dmax. medyo kulang kulang pero buti na yung laging handa since prone ang cavite area sa flood and alike except in the highlands which we have our other house.

if you wanna stock up on non-rechargeable go get Energizer LITHIUM at SM, now on sale. expiry date is 2025. these things don't leak and ruin your equipment like alkalines (alkaleaks) do

lithium ion is a good energy-dense battery. here's my personal stash:

combined with a powerbank / charger like this Xtar SP1 it's like having a 270,400mah powerbank LOL

then of course flashlights you gotta have lots of them

^there are a number of high end knife makers such as CRKT, Benchmade, SOG, Microtech, Busse, etc. but I still prefer the Mora just because it's hard to beat for the value :D

and I can get lot's of them for the same price! Now, that's prepping

I don't think the article is bad if you have read it. It did not actually say NiCd is best. As a matter of fact the chart presents Eneloop (NiMH)as an ideal choice among the other types listed.

I would say I agree with article's intention to give its theory on why rechargeable batteries are more suitable for general emergency preparedness. It is totally up to the individual what to him/her is best to acquire based on need and afordability.

That stash you have of Li-Ion batteries is quite an eye candy. My reserve is a mix of sorts. My flashlight collection uses many different types of batteries so I am not beholden to storing a particular type or size. That's already given. I am more bias on capacity and pressumed dependability.

Are those your flashlight collection? My flashlights are scattered everywhere (BOB, GHB, cars, drawers, med cabinets, tool boxes, weapons, EDC... virtually everywhere) I hope I can gather them all and have a family picture one day :-)

Gathered some of the torches from my EDC and night stand. Sig Equinox has a tlr-1s, Sig P229 Elite has a tlr-4. Nitecore SRT7 and mh1a, Techlite, 4Sevens Preon, Fenix E11 and Victorinox Huntsman lite.

I have Coast, Sunwayman, Maglite and other more scattered everywhere. Just too lazy to bring them out.

On my long guns, I have Surefire, Streamlight and Nitecore.

And of course, my baby has his own too...

I hope those in PH don't model themselves after the crackpots here in the US. The Filipino pysche is quite different from that here (US). The crackpots here intentionally wish to isolate themselves from the rest of humanity. That's why they live in isolated regions. Filipinos are more community-minded despite all the bickering that goes on. The last thing you want to do is distance yourself from other Filipinos. That's exactly what you would do by having all these firepower around.

My wife's relatives in Tacloban City experienced the full fury of Haiyan and its aftermath (one nephew even had to dive down nearly 10m of storm surge to rescue his youngest child). They had nothing left but the clothes on their back and their homes reduced to a pile of debris. Yet, they still managed to smile despite having lost everything. They already experienced the Doomsday scenario mentioned here and survived.

Some of my wife's photos during her visit to assess damage to her property.

I did an essay once on Disaster Preparedness. One of my emphasis was on the availability of potable water which can met by using solar stills. One design caught my interest enough that I emailed its designer for permission to use his slides.
