Pharmaceutical companies ask the docs to prescribe the newer, more expensive ones coz there's more money to be made there. The older, cheaper antibiotics all have generic equivalents so there's not much money to be made.
Alam naman natin ang relationship between pharmaceutical companies and doctors diba?

August 11th, 2007 05:54 PM #3pamahal talaga ng pamahal ang antibiotics. its a never ending battle against the microbes. people make antibiotics, resistant strains survive. we make stronger antibiotics, even more resistant strains survive. never ending battle yan. dagdagan pa ng poor compliance (which is sometimes inevitable), kaya lalong lumalakas ang mga microbes.
i don't want to scare you guys pero meron ng mga methicilin-resistant staph aureus (MRSA) na hindi na tinatablan ng vancomycin, at meron na ding MDR-TB (mutiple drug resistant TB). kapag etong mga to ang dumapo sa iyo, medyo mahirap at matindi ang gamutan.
IMO, kung gamaling ka, then hindi ka nagsayang ng pera. and you're correct, hindi lahat ng antibiotics ay pwede sa lahat ng infection. you have to consider kung may allergy ka sa antibiotic, kung susceptible yung "germ" sa antibiotic na gagamitin mo, at kung ang antibiotic na iinumin mo ay aabot sa location ng katawan mo kung nasaan ang "germ."

smooth is right its an uphill battle. Resistant strains form everyday and pharmaceuticals have to keep up.
But yes, the medreps are hot too.

August 11th, 2007 11:06 PM #5OT...resistant strains are happening, kasi your typical pork, egg and poultry is usually "tainted" with residual antibiotics.
The bad side is some of these antibiotics used in livestocks are already the same ones STILL being used for humans - ex. CEFALEXINE - used widely sa broiler chickens but one of the primary antibiotics for human respiratory disorders.

Resistant strains also form when patients have poor compliance (e.g. they underdose, fail to take the required doses, self medicate, etc.).

August 12th, 2007 10:18 AM #8some people think that amoxicillin is a cure-all antibiotic for all illnesses. some just take it for 1 or 2 days or only until they start feeling better. antibiotics should be taken the whole 5-7 days, and should be taken religiously.

Ummm... im not a doctor pero i know antibiotics. hehe! wag po kayong basta basta nalang bibili at magtetake ng gamot especially if antibiotics is your concern... its really DANGEROUS and could be FATAL... i recommend if you feel the need for antibiotics better consult a doctor first and foremost for you to be given the right drug and dosage and also Antibiotics can cause ALLERGIC reactions. Imbis na gumaling ka, lalo pa lumala condition mo kasi mali antibiotics tinake mo. Its not like Paracetamol or Ibuprofen na pagsumakit ulo mo or something pwede ka na bumili nyan. Maraming klase ng antibiotics... Amoxicillin is under Penicillins FYI... maraming din klase ng Peniccilins. Take it also at the right time to maintain the desired effect.
Hope this helps you sir...
