Last year when we released the West Valley Fault maps, therr was this house of an informals settler in Quezon City that we mapped to be directly above the fault. We even told the owner her refrigerator was directly over it. The next day we came back to continue our awareness campaign she proudly showed us what she did, she moved her ref a foot to the side of our delineation!

Seriously though there are many other hazards from earthquakes. Not being on top of the fault just means your house or building is less susceptible to ground rupture. Other hazards are liquefaction, ground shaking, landslides and tsunamis (if one is close to the shore).

Breaking: DAVAO provinces niyanig ng magnitude 4.5 na lindol kaninang 6:16PM ayon sa Philvocs

    -------------

    Philstar

More than 900 aftershocks were recorded after the magnitude 5.5 earthquake hit Batangas on Tuesday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported yesterday.

Phivolcs director Renato Solidum said as of 1 p.m. yesterday, there were a total of 934 aftershocks, 118 of which were plotted while 14 were reported felt events.

Solidum warned that aftershocks might occur for days.

Thats why it was called a blind fault, no earthquake has occurred in the area since the 1900s when observational seismology was applied in the Philippines by the Jesuits and Americans.

The problem is everytime there is a major earthquake we always tie it up with the nearest major fault as the culprit.
The Phivolcs data (as you claimed) is telling you that the epicenter is 90 kilometers off Carmen and yet Phivolcs made a press release contrary to the facts.
It will be impossible to mitigate nor predict an earthquake if all our data analysis is tunneled vision. We should start looking outside of the box, technology is improving.

I was in Cebu during the Bohol earthquake, and I didn't believe that earthquake could be caused by a major fault that recently moved.
Thats 7.2 magnitude, do you know how long it will take to stressed a fault to produce that magnitude? Considering that fault is already ruptured and will move even before it reaches the stress level that correspond to a magnitude 7.2.

Of course. People want to know where it occurred and what caused it. So that in the future we can avoid it or at least prepare for another one. How did it become tunnel vision? There are many ways of computing the magnitude, the first is thru instrumentation (usually preliminary and can change as more sensor data comes in), but the actual magnitude can take weeks or months of measurements of rupture lenghths to know exactly. Thats why we need to know which fault moved and why fault mapping is important. Sadly we do not have many geologists (how many do you know?) who can map every kilometer of the Philippines and even less who are even actually into earthquake fault mapping. Sadly sometimes these earthquakes from blind faults occur.

Maybe we should all look at the big picture here. Why is it happening during holy week. Madami kasi Pilipino ngaun di na bibibigyan ng importansya ang holy week, ginagawang pasko na vacation time.

Maybe we all should pray and repent, and cancel all those vacations, sumosobra na tayo mga tao sa pagigiging control sa buhay natin. God is knocking on us right now.

Time to contemplate and talk to him

it's the same issue when something bad happens to oneself... "why me? why only now"
well, "why not you? and what's wrong with now?"

my point is, it's nature doing its thing. the best we humans can do, is to accept it and get out of the way.

but yes... one can always inject a religious slant... anywhere.

Maybe the earthquakes were caused by a mechanical mole running underground.

Depends on the soil/rock type underneath you. Shaking severity can be amplified or attenuated.

Well, im also one of those who didnt feel anything on these reported strong quakes. Maybe those who felt it more needs to talk to God.

Parang yung hurricanes sa America, scientist cant figure out how one house is fully destroyed and another is fully intact . It's almost as if pre-selected ang tatamaan

Ive also been studying why Batangas, well maybe because yun na nga takbuhan ng vacation ng mga tiga-Metro manila na nearest.

it's explained scientifically, naman. it's a common enough scenario.
the diameter of destruction along its path is narrow, but the length of the path is not.

Look I know gusto nyo lang magbakasyon and you are clinging on science, I get that naman. You cant stop what's in your heart.

Siguro na lang if ever you're gonna push through with your vacation, try to include him in your travels para hindi na kayo ma-guilty
