Hello guys/gals

In regards of the thread "Is Jeepney still something to be proud of?"
Majority are not so good. And most comment are about how Jeepney's was made.

So, Im thinking if we post our ideas what Jeepney as a vehicle (public or personal) needs.

From engine to exhaust, Suspensions to sunroof, spoiler or handrails, gas diesel or nukes)

I'm going to pattern my jeepney after that aircon jeep that's really a bus that looks like a jeep. Then I'll put a jet engine on it, and maybe wings.

why can't we have electric buses painted and decorated outlandishly to retain the jeepney's fun and festive spirit yet reap the benefits of cleaner emission and less congested streets. these buses can be extended so you'll have the capacity of 10 (or more) jeepneys in one. if they can do it in san francisco where they have impossible steep hills and narrow streets, i'm sure it can be done in manila. but as yebo had mentioned, this takes vision, something our politicians sorely lack, and money, something that they would rather pocket than contribute to the greater good. okay, i'm done ranting.

Electric? Not very practical. Note that fossil fuel power plants have about the same efficiency as that of diesel engines (which theoretically means the same emissions and economy, which defeats the purpose). Unless they'd be powered by a dedicated electric line, like the trains. But they ain't trains.

I think the seat design should be similar to the MRT's, so naka designate ung tamang number na taong kasya. hindi half lang ng butt mo yung naka upo.

Even the relatively wide 2+2 bus seating can't take HUGE people without you being squeezed (believe me, I ride a 2+2 seating bus every week and sometimes...)!

It can be done, but I doubt if the bus operator will be able to make a profit, the Phil. has one of the higher electricity rates in the world. Kahit diesel engined na lang masaya na ako.

For me aerodynamic dapat seats should be comfortable and well reclined including the driver and passenger seat.May GUMAGANANG gauges,dashboard,aircon, atbp.Yung jeep hindi sobrang haba at hindi sobrang maikli.Reserve tire dapat nasa likod at nasa ilalim ng jeep.Idrawing ko na lang kaya... Parang town and country cguro kalalabasan ng drawing ko nito..heehh

dapat yun body ng jeepney mahal din ipagawa at madaling mayupi. that way, magdadalwang isip sila mag-cut, mang-harang, magbangga ng matitinong sasakyan. malaki din nawala sa kanila.

kung jipni drayber po ako, i would take a Renault Espace F1, put iron kabayo on the hood, a super high tech "full string to stop" system, and a carbon fiber statue of the Virgin Mary next to the barya holder...and get out there on the streets

yung gusto kong jeep ay yung may mechanism na kukutusan(or a well placed electric shock in the nether regions would do even better hehe) yung driver tuwing may ginagawang road discourtesy.

heck this should be standard for all vehicles!

We should have steam powered jeeps, running on dried cogon, hemp, and mary jane... para masaya naman ang mga passengers. But seriously, microbus style, but still with side facing benches with separate butt buckets for each passenger.
Door on the side in front instead of the rear, with a big swing-door... big enough so the driver will think twice about stopping too far away from the curb.

it is a very common misconception that because electric motors do not produce any pollutants (not true) and internally are more efficient than internal combustion engines, that they are better for the environment. HOWEVER, this notion does not take into consideration the following facts:

1. the electricity has to be generated somewhere. yes you do not see the power plants, but those power plants are also using fossil fuels, and thus generate the same amount of carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. in fact they produce more carbons due to larger inefficiencies in the transmission. let's say a power plant produces 1 megawatt hour of electricity at the highest efficiency possible. then...see #2

2. that electricity has to be transmitted through long distances, by high tension wires that have inherent resistances. at say 90% efficiency of transmission, then that 1 megawatt hour power generated at the plant becomes 900 kilowatt hours at the station. then that AC current is converted to DC with more losses, and which is more inefficient than AC to transmit. since the transmission and conversion losses are great then that efficiency in #1 actually becomes lower than if the power is generated on site (by the gas, diesel or LNG engines in the vehicle.) if you don't believe that transmission losses are big, then look at your meralco bill.

3. that DC current drives DC motors. guess what pollutant DC motors produce? O3, or ozone. it's good up there 200,000 feet above your head but down on the ground it is a known carcinogen, attacks metals and masonry (bad for buildings, bridges, and almost anything you don't want to rust.) and since the DC motors have also internal losses (efficiency is around 90-95%) then the overall efficiency of the system goes down further. result = more CO and CO2 produced at the power plant that would be if the power is produced in the vehicle itself.

back to topic, i suggest LNG powered vehicles that are a compromise in size between buses and mini-buses. i prefer LNG because it is clean, almost no pollutants. it does not require huge power plants like hydrogen does (you need to generate the hydrogen somewhere, duh!). also, the potential for natural gas deposits in the philippines is good. they will have short routes that start and terminate at LRT/MRT stations, a route that plies along side streets which will be an added convenince to people who live far from the major roads. no long routes except where there are no LRT/MRT lines. this will of course require that the LRT/MRT network be extended to cover most of the major routes in the metropolis. and they can be made colorful just like the jeepney. hell, put a stainless steel horse on the front bumper, 10 of them! and on-board entertainment system too, a videoke machine! added income pa din yan since you need to drop 5 pesos per 2 songs! yun lang nga baka meron magbakbakan sa loob pag may kumanta ng "my way" nyahahahaha!

Also, the buses here in San Francisco have the powerlines above the buses which would not work in the Manila because of the typhoons(SFO does not get those). The problem is that both drivers and passengers need discipline and only get on and off the PUV at designated stops. Only buses should be used in EDSA and any major roads. Jeepneys should only be permitted the on the secondary streets. Example: no jeepneys for the Cubao to Quiapo route only buses so that would keep the traffic in Espana, E. Rodriguez to a minimum. You can have bus stops every kilometer with a designated number and each bus may only stop at the number that matches the ones painted on the bus. This way everyone can see that he is in violation if he stops at a different bus stop, with the advent of the camera phone Juan Dela Cruz can take a pic and give it to the regulating agency for enforcement. Jeepneys or whatever is used to replace them follow the same concept with the numbered stops for the secondary streets. Tricycles should only be inside the villages. As far as the bus operators they should not be in it to make a profit, here in the states the buses are operated by the local government as a service to the public.

Isn't LNG also a non-renewable resource? Better kung biodiesel... every time the driver stops at the local McDo or Jollibee, he can top off with fryer oil... And we plant the islands of EDSA wìth coconut trees for emergency fuel.

Ive read somewhere that the "Greenhouse Effect" is just a theory, the scientists are not even sure wheter the toxic emissions from vehicle are the real culprit of global warming. We may just be experiencing a regular earth cycle of gradual heating which occurs every millenium.

With regards to the topic on hand, id much prefer a "tram" type jeepney, like the ones we see in movies (san francisco) para hindi na pa zigzagzigzag sa kalye ang mga jeepney at talagang sa jeepney stop lang hihinto

he-he. didn't think about the typhoons. then how about the diesel powered accordion buses that we have in SF, or the double-decker buses they have in london? and i agree that they should be run by the local government as a public service, creating employment, but can we really trust the government to do the right thing nowadays.

instead of local govt running it, all the jeepney franchise holders will be organized into a corporation where all of them will have shares equal to their investments. it will be overseen by a competent govt agency, like a team from both the lto and the coa. also the accounting will be handled by a private accounting firm. tapos the drivers will be the jeepney drivers, but they will be given training in traffic rules. there will also be a condition of "strike 3 you're out" policy, wherein if they commit 3 traffic infractions within a year they will be suspended for a year from last date of traffic violation. this will be automatic and can not be contested. they will be on a regular salary, not on a boundary or commission basis so that they will not be under any pressure to pick up passengers, and therefore will be able to follow set schedules in plying their routes.

there will also be set lanes for them to stay on, but this should work both ways. it will be a traffic violation if they stray out from the lanes, and private vehicles that will go into those lanes will also be under the "strike 3 you're out" policy. private vehicles that will stray in these PUV only lanes will be impounded for a month!

lanes on the roads will also be modified. all loading points or stops will be at the center of each block, not at the corners. lanes 30 meters before corners will be designated "no stopping/parking/waiting" lanes and must always be free from traffic. only those vehicles that are turning right will be allowed within this 30 meters of rightmost lane.

ang kaso, need ng hitler or stalin to have this implemented!
