    $1.4M Pa-pogi Points!

    Mabuti naman at nakabalik nang buhay si Robert Tarongoy, ang accountant na taga-Davao na kinidnap sa Baghdad noong Nov. 1, 2004. Sa TV, malaki ang pasalamat ni Tarongoy kay Arroyo dahil raw talagang hindi siya pinabayaan.

    Dapat magpasalamat rin si Tarongoy sa nag-tape ng usapan ni Arroyo at ni dating Comelec Commissioner Virgilio Garcillano at sa mga tao na hindi binibitiwan ang isyu kahit anong pananakot ang ginagawa ng Malacanang.

    Mula't simula kasama ang pagbayad ng ransomang negosasyon ng krisis team sa pagkuha kay Tarongoy. Kaya lang hanggang $200,000 (P11 milyon) lang ang gusto ibayad ng pamahalaang Arroyo. Mayroon ngang panahon na parang bibigay na ang mga kidnappers kaya lang mahirap mapakawalan si Tarongoy dahil panay ang raid ng mga Amerikano at Iraqi forces.

    Mga dalawang linggo na ang nakaraan, nakatanggap ng tawag si Undersecretary Rafael Seguis kay Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita na kailangan raw makuha si Tarongoy kahit anong halaga. "Tulungan natin si Presidente. Seryoso itong problema sa tape," ang say raw ni Ermita. Akala kasi ng Malacanang, maiging katulad ni Angelo de la Cruz at makalimutan na ng mga tao ang Gloriagate at jueteng.

    Dahil sa nahalata ng mga kidnapper na talagang kailangang-kailangan ng Pilipinas si tarongoy nagpa-presyo sila at nagsara sa $1.4 milyon. P77 milyon yan sa pesos. Nakalagay ang pera sa maleta na pinadeliber nina Seguis sa highway sa labasng Baghdad. Nang makuha ang pera sa umaga, nang gabi pinalaya na si Tarongoy.

    Tuwang-tuwa naman ang sambayanan para kay Tarongoy. Ngunit hindi naalis ang atensyon nila sa Gloriagate tapes. Tuloy ang ang sigaw ng "Gloria, Resign!"

    ================================================== =======

    Mabuti naman at nakalaya na si Tarongoy. Pero kung talagang sincere si GMA, dapat noon pa niya ginawa yah, hindi na umabot pa ng 8 months. Siyempre, bumaho na pangalan niya because of Jueteng and Hello Garci, kailangan niyang "pumogi" ng konti, kaya, ayan, bumigay sa ransom ng mga kidnappers.

    Pero, $1.4M (P77M)? Whew! :arghhh:

    sorry, but i'm not familiar with the story - did the philippine government pay ransom again for a kidnapped citizen? what is this, the second well-publicized time this has happened?

    fair game na tayo mga kapatid - kidnap a pinoy, get a million bucks. especially you guys who travel to the ME. no other government does this

    Obviously, you are not aware that ransom was also "suspected" to have been paid by Bulgaria and Italy to recover their kidnapped citizens in Iraq.

    NO GOVERNMENT IN ITS RIGHT MIND WILL DECLARE PUBLICLY THAT IT HAS PAID RANSOM TO TERRORISTS.

    Mga chismosa lang ang nag-de-declare nito publicly sa media to create a controversy para may mapag-usapan pampatay-oras.

    well, thanks for the info, but what i was really wondering was whether the ransom was actually paid or not, not if the government was admitting that they paid anything. there are conflicting reports on the web, and i can't tell what sources are credible or not.

    i cannot help but wonder why we suddenly released after 8 months. did the kidnappers suddenly give up? the last time we heard this kind of thing happen, the philippines did pay a ransom - it was in the form of troop withdrawals and not cash, but a ransom nonetheless.

    so past history considered, you have to wonder whether there's any truth to these so-called chismis
