HONG KONG - Chinese carmaker Geely Automobile Holdings Ltd. said on Thursday sales at its two associates rose 29.2 percent in January from December, partly because it completed a research and development centre and sales and supply network.
Geely, which makes low-priced cars for the world's fastest-growing market, said its two 46.8 percent-owned associates sold 10,350 units in January, without giving a comparison figure for the same month in 2004.
The firm said in a statement that the associates expect to produce and sell 120,000 to 140,000 units of Geely and Maple sedans this year, including 10,000 for export.
Geely said its two associates sold 27,594 units and 66,057 units of Geely and Maple sedans in 2003 and 2004 respectively.
China's car industry saw its growth slow dramatically last year after Beijing tightened credit and cracked down on rapid investment in industries such as autos.
Geely shares ended 1.19 percent lower on Thursday at HK$0.415. The stock has risen 3.75 percent in the past three months.

If you go to Cambodia, you can get a mid to late 1990s Merc for $ 1000. Thing is, the body is a Merc but the engine is not. You'll be amazed on what type of engines that some of these Mercs have. Try Isuzu. Is it a fake Merc? I should say so because the engine ain't a Merc. Only government officials and the few, rich-folk there can afford genuine Mercs.
