The true essence of God and religion is to unite us all, free from nationalities, cultures and self-serving ideologies.

Isn't religion the same way? If history can be analyzed critically, so can religion. With different religions around the world, they seem to be just a different way to divide people. But, instead of dividing people along political lines, they divide people by their beliefs.

Because most religious fanatics cannot see beyond their literal churches. Akala nila dun lang yun.

Take for example this movie Heneral Luna, tangible kaya lahat ng tao ngaun lang naka-feel ng patriotism aka belongingness. But do take notice the reaction after watching the movie, they'll find somebody to blame and still the Filipino politicians, ang labo diba. If religious beliefs stayed inside someone's private thoughts, sure. But, we know they never do. Religious beliefs often influence, even intermingle with, politics. That's where the problems arise because despite having "one Supreme Being" to talk to, the other aspects of a particular religion often conflict with those of another.

In the past, I've seen it enough with my folks. My mom is Roman Catholic and my dad (RIP) was Protestant. They argued frequently about their religious beliefs. My dad would say Roman Catholicism is the yoke the Spaniards used to subjugate the PH for over 300 years. Of course, that only infuriated my mom who retaliated by saying my dad is one of the traitors who broke away. The arguments got old really quick. Good thing I left home while I was still relatively young.
