An update on this one. Shin Won-ho is a brilliant director!!!
Started with Hospital Playlist which I absolutely loved. Then Reply 1988 which is indeed a masterpiece! Easily the best k-drama I've watched and definitely ranks #1 for me. Hospital Playlist is a solid #2, maybe with season 2 can go up to #1 pa but Reply 1988 is really hard to beat.
Amazing depth, character development, and great take on youth, love, family, and friendship. So many memorable scenes that just tug at your heartstrings in different ways. All without needing to resort to the typical pa-kilig trope of kdrama.
It's not something for a newbie kdrama watcher (CLOY or Itaewon are better gateway series) but after a few of those light kdramas, Reply 1988 is a must-watch. Everyone else who I've recommended it to has rated it very highly as well.
I've also watched Prison Playbook and now watching Reply 1994 (Go Ara, Yoo Yoonseok, and Kim Sung-kyun are here so I got drawn in to it more than 1997 but 1997 will be next). I love all of Shin Won-ho's works and he's really on a class of his own.

This! I've been binge-ing on KDrama since the start of ECQ and these definitely are on top of my list of faves. I started with 1988, then 1997, 1994, and Hospital Playlist. I definitely think 1997 should be watched first, since it is the "most raw" among the 3 Reply's, but each of them really had different charming aspects to themselves. Prison Playbook is on my waitlist.
First time I watched 1988, it was kind of draggy at the start, but as the series went on, I found myself wishing for it not too end. It would wear out someone who is not as serious to finish it, though, lalo yung mga maiikli yung attention span![]()
Ang hirap i-express into words.. [emoji2956]
If you want to try Korean movies yung "Money" and "Believer" nya yung pinaka nagustuhan ko pero halos lahat maganda din. [emoji4]
I'm not too fussed about who Deoksun ended up with, the more important part was that they went through entire process of young love - filled with the moments of infatuation, awkwardness, indecision, dedication, and inevitably heartbreak.
I'm far more interested in the Sunwoo-Bora love story since I identify a lot with Bora hehe.
But really the most memorable parts are moments with family - Sunwoo showing the Yonsei scholarship to Sun-young, Jungpal prepping Ra Miran's surprise wedding, the plaque of the Sung kids for Dong-il, Moosung's reaction with Taek's plane crash scare, Sunwoo giving Moosung a wedding invite with Moosung as his father, Bora's letter to Dong-il during the wedding, Deoksun's message that she wishes to go back to the time when they were young and their parents were like mountains - I can go on and on. So many priceless moments that are actually just everyday events but strike a chord because they feel so real.

Oooooh Sunwoo-Bora, interesting..
Wow!

I like this series too what touches me is that mr shaibet all this time kept harmon's achievements in the basement which is the turning point for her to play well and nice to see benny, beltik and all those guys helping out beth in her last match. Is this how russian really is when there is a chess match?
