That's what the water separator is for. But most old-school diesels can handle a little water... it's the new CRDis with ultra-fine filters and sensitive, high-pressure pumps that are vulnerable.

Water will eventually wear out your fuel pump (requires fuel as lubricant), though... CRDi or not... but us old-schoolers have cheap pumps.

A hole? Wouldn't know... overpressure, maybe? But I doubt you have enough pressure in the system to break a filter... might be a defect.

it is very possible of a defect indeed, I just thought water had something to add in the reciepe for disaster.
