The most common reason by manufacturers is the poor diesel quality (Euro2) of the Philippines relative to bigger markets like Europe (Euro4/5). AFAIK, only Unioil sells Euro4 diesel in the Philippines. Only Hyundai/Kia have released a diesel crossover /small SUV, Tuscon and Sportage respectively, in the Philippines, which I surmise was de-tuned(?) or rigorously tested locally prior to release.
Other manufacturers may not find the market large enough to justify releasing a diesel locally -- But this is just my personal speculation.
