Japan's Mazda Motor Corp. is recalling some 2006 Mazda5 vehicles because of a potential fire hazard.

The recall of about 5,500 vehicles stems from a possible heat buildup in the exhaust system that could start a fire, CNN reported Wednesday. Three instances of fire have been reported, with no injuries, Mazda said.

Some 2,700 of the cars have been sold or are still in dealer lots, according to Jeremy Barnes, Mazda's product communications manager.
