Both are great cars to keep.
I've to admit I'm drawn more to that roadster simplicity.
nope, mx-5's never responded to tuning as well as other cars and will never have after market support as much as the 86/brz. just look at the previous mx-5's not just in the ph but around the world, yes they have a lot of after market parts but not even half as many as the 86/brz or other common sports cars. also the guy with the mx-5 just had his tuned by staunch and the results were ridiculously disappointing ecutek still isn't available for it besides the fact that it's been out for a couple of months already, while ecutek for the 86/brz became available a couple of weeks after it was introduced in the market. just goes to show you that tuners won't prioritize launching their products for the mx-5.

don't get me wrong i'm not pro 86/brz or pro mx-5 in fact i actually sold my brz to get an mx-5, i'm merely stating facts.

I just shared what I've seen from OVT w/ EpifanSoft's MazdaEdit. They're way ahead of our very own Staunch. Can't compare & conclude apples & oranges. The NC had supercharger kits that probably never saw our shores....& eventually the ND may just see forced induction if demand flies. Mazda is coming out w/ the turbo Sky to run the CX9 soon.
Yes, the Toyobaru triplets are popular & yes, I agreed on moddability & mod availabilty. But, it's unfairly a bit too early to arrive at tunability generalizations. The SkyActiv is a totally different animal, sir.
And, nope, I'm no MX5 defender....just a fan of those 2 very different cars, sir.

With all due respect, niky sir, it's the contrary. The said piggybacks fitted on SkyActivs have seen nothing but rough sailing. Most if not all were removed. You may ask the owners, whom I can't divulge publicly, who've had them.
MazdaEdit & OVT have done very well on these hi-comp engines.
Both engines only share injection method common, otherwise they are distinctly different.

That's a shame. So it'll be a few years before aftermarket parts become common for the 2.0s then.

Not enough revs on the launch. With cars with that little torque, you have to launch at around 4-5k rpm to keep it from bogging in first gear.... especially the FR-S/BRZ/86. I recall us doing mid-8's to 100 km/h (62 mph) with two people on board... which suggests low 8s to 60 mph.

I can believe that the MX-5 is faster, though... so much more midrange torque and so much less weight than the Toyota.

yeah Roman the tall guy doesn't know tricks with both cars.

Nathan knows the proper rpm required to get a good launch.

the miata burns the toyobaru like it had 200hp also but I think the skyactiv engine is a better engine than the subi engine. and the weight disribution/suspension is abit better.

I wonder if the miata had better tires.

Would they ever offer leather seats for the Manual? I'm not a fan of fabric seats but it seems like leather is only available for AT.

Correct. Leather for A/T only. Tan leather for Soul Red and Ceramic, while black leather for Crystal White and Jet Black.
