Should be similar to the FC of the previous generation Mz3.

6-speed should be more fuel efficient than 4-speed. In general the newer Sky-Activ engine is more fuel efficient than the older MZR engine.

Sir kimot and jut, i need your expert opinion about the mazda 3 maxx 1.6 4 speed engine? My SA is bargaining it in a very good price. What do you think is it's pros and cons?

Ps. In my kind of work, i might drive my car like 2 or 3 times a week only. Any suggestions? Been reading your comments in this forum.. i'm amazed actually. Thanks in advance!

Can't imagine why you'd want a Mazda 3 1.6 Maxx. Either get the 1.5 or look elsewhere.

Pros:
1. Cheap price. However, if you want an affordable compact, there are lots of options, cheapest would be the Nissan Sylphy 1.6 CVT (my officemate got his for 850k only).

2. Free maintenance - think of it as a 20-30k discount, since that's what it'll cost to maintain a Sylphy or Altis for 3 years.

Cons:
1. Old engine and transmission (only gets 7-8 km/L, not powerful enough compared to its contemporaries).

2. Lacking in features. Only has steel rims (seriously?!), no fog lamps, etc

3. Poor resale value (common trait of all Mazdas)

How much is your SA giving you the Mz3 Maxx?

Its in the bargain bin for a reason. Get the SkyActiv version na.

no. but i'm contemplating on it. problem was agent can't differentiate the maxx and skyactive and wasn't able to give me a discount. the quote says 899k plus freebies. but as i read along, i saw your post, you said it's an old engine and 4AT. the display unit i saw has a hubcap on it pa. hindi daw talaga naka mags ang maxx, plus 20k if you want the skyactive mags. i'm also considering the sylphy. good that you posted it, i think ok na sa 850k for cvt. nagmahal na kasi yun altis AT so im thinking of alternatives.

If you're not planning to keep the car long term, CVTs are fine. Have you driven 1? A bit different, & expect the CVT noise. They're ticking time bombs & rebuilds will be draining.
In my hunt, I've looked at every option out there, landed the 1.5 Sky Hatch & got absolutely ZERO regrets.
If you're bent on the MZR Maxx, skip the wheel upgrade for now. You can choose better ones or go bigger outside the dealership.
Just my 2cents, though. I can't say others won't be good choices....just that I've been extremely happy w/ mine.

The only problematic CVT that was sold locally was the GD Jazz/City. It's more of a specific faulty gearbox than a problem with CVTs in general. The Cedia Lancer which preceded it never had any issues. My friends with Lancer EXs don't have problems with their CVTs either.

I never found CVTs to be noisy either, unless of course you start looking for the noise. For the Altis CVT, the car's NVH is good enough not to have any disturbing humming noises in the cabin.

Nissan has one of the best CVT trannies in the market right now, offering very smooth operation and good fuel economy. I've only tried it on the new X-Trail but the Sylphy should have a similar transmission.

Oh, and about the Altis price increase, I heard they're offering it with roughly a 35k discount so the 949k is effectively just 914k, not much more expensive than the Maxx but already comes with alloy rims, fog lamps, and auto climate control. Of course, the Sylphy 1.6 at 850k is still a better bargain.
