Lightweight Miatas, Speedster(left) & Spyder(right), Showcased at SEMA

Mazda is showcasing two new MX-5 Miata concepts at the Specialty Equipment Manufacturer’s Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas. The concepts, based on the 2016 MX-5, are the MX-5 Spyder and the MX-5 Speedster, both aimed towards the core of the lightweight, open-air basis of the Miata.

Mazda’s design team in North America went with two ideas. One aimed towards a more reminiscent tuner’s dream, the other towards pure sport focus. Both are based on the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata unveiled last year and now in showrooms.

The Spyder concept is a more throwback look at the Miata’s quarter century of heritage, including a bikini top and improved aerodynamics in tribute to the car’s rich racing history. Carbon fiber aero additions, a new grille intake, and Yokohama ADVAN Racing RS II 17-inch wheels are showcased. Inside, Spinneybeck PRIMA natural leather is the highlighted upgrade. This is meant to showcase a nostalgic, but higher-end Miata, reminding onlookers of the heights the car has been taken to, in terms of luxury and power, by tuners in the past.

The MX-5 Speedster, on the other hand, is all business. This is a truly race-ready Miata that takes "back to basics" to a whole new level. It’s reminiscent of the roadsters of the 1950s, dumping everything non-essential in the name of lightweight open-top speed.
The Miata’s windshield is gone, being replaced by an old-school deflector. Custom lightweight wheels from Extreme Gram, an adjustable coilover suspension (30mm lower), a center-mounted exhaust from RACING BEAT, and an Alcantara interior finish the job. That leather covers carbon fiber Mu-Len-Delta seats.

Several other parts of the car have been replaced with carbon fiber as well, including the doors. In all, the MX-5 Speedster dropped an impressive 250 lb (113 kg) from its production counterpart.

At the very least the release of the new Focus and Civics should shake up the market.

Competition is always good. Hello Telstra

BTW & OT the lower variants of the current Camry don't even have Bluetooth. It even tries to read my SMS with a hilarious accent. Makes me love my hobo even more

Resale value isn't among my points of choosing. Most of ours are kept & self maintained long term. Still got 2 '90s Toyota workhorses kept in tip top shape serving the family.....the same intentions w/ the M3.
True, resale is a plus when that time comes, but when one chooses by heart, that car has better chances staying long than leaving early....Here, sentimental value sits above resale....Yes, I'm amongst the eccentric few not gifted w/ practical wisdom many possess.:D

Hi! Just got my new 2015 Mazda 3 hatchback 2.0. 1 week na siya, sobrang ganda

    May mga tanong lang ako:
    - Special ba ang battery nito? How much?

May official ba nito from Mazda mismo?

    Thanks guys!

    Yup, Mazda Q85 is special.
    -Recognized Substitutes:
    Motolite 1SMF/NS50ZZL/D23L
    AC DELCO: SQ85D23LEFB
    -Cost: Php15-25ish K
    -Life is dependent on usage.
-Reasons why a specific battery for i-stop system is necessary
 When a vehicle equipped with i-stop system stops at a red light, engine is stopped for fuel
economy improvement. When the vehicle starts to drive again, the engine restarts. So, battery discharging and charging are repeated in a short period of time.
 Also, during i-stop operation, as electric power for air conditioning and audio systems etc. is supplied from the battery only, discharging occurs more than on vehicles without i-stop
    system.
 If a battery other than the specifically designed for i-stop is used instead, its lifecycle may be reduced or it may disable i-stop function.

-Lowdown on differences between Q85 & regular batt:
It has improved durability/charging acceptability. In order to achieve these performances, it
    has the following features.
    ① More durability
    (1) With the use of narrow grid, holding capacity of active material is raised to prevent active material from becoming softened and dropping.
    (2) Charging ability is improved by reducing sulfation due to discharging.
※Sulfation :At this condition, battery cannot be reduced to lead and sulfuric acid even after charging because lead sulfate, which is generated during battery discharging, causes coarsening in the recrystallization process.
Recrystallization progresses gradually. So, by keeping the discharging condition (with more lead sulfate included) for a long time, sulfation occurs, which lowers battery capacity or charging ability.

    ② More charging ability
    (1) Additive included in lead of battery plate
    is optimized to increase charging
    performance.
    (2) Reaction area is increased by having
more battery plates to improve charging
    performance.
On the other hand, though charging acceptability has increased with more battery plates, dendrite short is more likely to occur due to smaller gap between battery plates!
※Dendrite short: If sulfuric acid concentration in the electrolyte solution decreases battery is exhaustively discharged. At that time, lead ion dissolves from lead sulfate. If
the battery is charged under such condition, lead ion grows and becomes like a shape of a needle on the (-) battery plate surface, which is called dendrite.

Why Shell Fuel Save? Technically, SkyActiv is not your regular direct injection engine. This is a hi-comp engine that runs on regular unleaded w/o the dreaded knock. To ensure smooth long running service, efficiency & yojin warranty retention, it's ideal to stick w/ what Mazda has endorsed. After all, going above the required octane won't add gains nor benefits, only cost.
Skeptics will always have their conspiracy theories about this....but to be safe & to make sure of yojin warranty, I'd rather submit & stay w/ the recommended.
