^according carguide hindi daw leather wrapped steering wheel yung 1.5 eh
baka sir germs. maybe at nlex and sctex nila nagawa yun. i'm not sure but please do correct me na that 1.+km/l difference ay due nadin sa power to weight ratio ng altis against the mz3. mas magaan i guess by 50-100kg yung altis and the 7 virtual gears ng cvt ng altis against the 6 speed ng mz3 could also be a factor. an extra gear is always welcome on highway driving.

Ang sakin lang, the Mazda 3 got the 15k/L rating while being flogged in Baler, while the Altis might have gotten that figure while doing 100kph constantly on a highway. Of course we can't really make any conclusions unless we know all the facts.
As for the leather wrapped steering wheel, di pa ba evidence enough yung pic? :D

A comment by Ulysses Ang from ************ about the 1.5 Mazda 3 and 1.6 Altis engines:
"With maximum power and torque for the 2.0 Skyactiv available at the top-end of the engine rev range, you need to be a bit more aggressive with the throttle to get some great pace going. But that's not to say that the engine's weak. On the contrary, the 2.0's pretty good, but you just need to wring the gas a bit more.
The story's the same with the 1.5-liter engine and the lack of torque is very evident during our trip back to Manila when we tried tackling mountain roads outside the convoy (we broke convoy on the way back). For city driving, I don't find the 1.5-liter underpowered--in fact, I even think it comes out as a great value product. I'd likely get the 1.5-liter for myself UNLESS the 2.0-liter does similar or better fuel economy in city driving.
Compared to the Altis 1.6 and Lancer EX 1.6, the Mazda3 1.5 sits somewhere in the middle. The Altis 1.6 has good low-end power and torque and feels very quick from the get-go. Toyota's hybrid CVT with torque converter does well in making the 1.6 feel more powerful than it really is. The Mazda3 1.5 comes in second. Again, you need to put a bit more gas but at least the engine produces a nice note and the transmission is very, very responsive. The Lancer EX 1.6 is just plain old. The 1.6 may pull well, but the old 4-speed 'box and the boomy engine just doesn't cut it. The Mitsubishi doesn't like to be revved."
I agree that if you get great mileage on the 2.0, then the 250K difference is worth it, but as it stands based on the comments there, it is 11.6km/L for the 2.0 and 13.6km/L on mixed driving on the hilly, twisty drive.
You can save on the 0.6-1% dealer's incentive thru car loan reimbursement. Buy car in cash and then loan it thru reimbursement.
Guys, my SA friend told me that the public launch for the SkyActiv Mazda 3 will be at BGC near Krispy Kreme on April 25-27. May test drive daw doon. Might drop by just to see if the 1.5 is any good.

Sad to say our Mazda3 didn't make it. Still, quite an achievement being in the top 3 finalists of 2 categories. I wish awards like these are measured with value-for-the-money standards, and not feature-set/performance regardless of the price.

Coz the German design their cars differently and voted by then as well. So how will Jap design win in this?
