    This afternoon, a piece of scrap metal punctured my tire:

    I had it checked by a vulcanizing shop and only a third of the piece of metal went through, so the damage to the rubber was minimal. After applying sealant via heat press, the tire was back to normal again at 38 PSI.

    My question is, can I still use the tire as I did before the puncture? Since it wasn't the sidewall that was damaged, and since the metal didn't pierece through too deeply, the guy who repaired it says it shouldn't be a hazard.
    I'd like to know what you guys think.

    If it helps, I travel about 100 km a day, mostly provincial highway. About once a month, I travel via land from Bicol to Manila and vice versa. This sometimes includes some top speed runs (which is only about 175 kph with a Ranger).
    I was wondering if the tire would still be okay at that speed.

    Normally the vulcanized area should be stronger than the original rubber if done properly, why not use your spare tyre ang ung damaged tyre ang gawin mong spare

    Given the damage is to the thread portion of the tire, it should be safe to use normally even with high speed runs. It will hold just as good as your other undamaged tires.

    If you must use it because your spare is worse, then use it for the rear. A high speed front tyre blow up can be deadly, a rear wheel blow up just damages your mags.

    Actually, my spare is still fresh, unused even. It's just that I wait 10,000 KM before rotating. Now that I think about it though, this might be too large of an interval since my 4 tires are now more visibly worn than the unused spare.

    Thanks for the confirmation guys on the useability of my vulcanized tire.

    Yup, its still good since the damage to the rubber was minimal granting the repair was done well.. drive safe!

    your unused spare trye might be fresh but still it ages with time.

    4 months palang naman hindi nagagamit yung tires. Within the month I'll hit 10,000 and have it rotated.

    i guess, one can still use the punctured tire normally as long as the punctured tire wasn't run flat. had the mistake of not noticing that one of my tires was run flat. ayun, reserba na sya.

    ako nga noon sa side pa yung butas ng tire (sinaksak ng mga addict).
    pina vulcanize ko rin. tapos nilagay ka sa rear.
    nagamit ko pa pauwi-balik ng bicol. overloaded pa kami non.
    hangang sa nabenta ko na yung sasakyan, ok pa rin yung mga gulong.

    use the spare. spare the punctured-but-repaired tire. file it under "tire rotation", which is what we should be doing, anyway.

    mga sirs, na punctured din yung gulong ko, hindi naman sya na flat at hindi ko rin alam kung kailan ito nangyari
    tinignan ko lang yung gulong ko kasi parang may dumi, pag hawak ko pako pala sya. pag ba pinavulcanize ko ito safe pa gamitin?
    pag tinanggal yung pako dun palang ba sya mafflat?
    salamat po sa mga sasagot.

    Pwede pa yan. Hindi naman sa side wall puncture.

    ^^ Pa vulcanize mo na lang as soon as possible. Medyo alanganin lang ako dahil malapit na sa sidewall.

    Ung may apoy sa ibabaw luto. Ung isa naman tutusukin pra pasakan ung hole sa tire mismo. Wala ng tanggalan, bsta tusok lang.

    Nasisira ang timpla ng goma sa luto type, lumulutong at humihiwalay sa steel belt katagalan.

    TS, since you mentioned the tire was heated and unsure if the belt was not damaged, better use it on the rear or as a spare na lang. BTW, im just curious where did you reached 170? Aside from Sto tomas to san pablo near villa escudero, high speed run above 140-180 i can do at San fernando after Milaor then portion of Iriga/Albay. Cam Norte bitukang manok is much of an "initial D" run, while rest of the road are unforgiving for the tires/suspension.
