Airbags are not mandatory here so Kia and Hyundai delete this feature to lower the price of the local spec Kia Rio and Hyundai Accent models.
If your concern is safety, both the Vios 1.3J and 1.3E have a driver's airbag, the 1.3E has ABS + EBD.

Now there's even more competition for the Rio...

P725K Mazda 2 1.5 MT: 103PS 1.5 liter engine, 15 inch alloy wheels, dual airbags, ABS + EBD, all power-features, 60:40 split folding rear seats.

P685K Fiesta 1.4 Trend MT: 95PS 1.4 liter engine, 15 inch alloy wheels, driver's airbag, ABS + EBD, all power-features, 60:40 split folding rear seats.
    *P766K Fiesta 1.6 Trend Powershift

P670K Fiesta 1.4 Style MT: 95PS 1.4 liter engine, 15 inch steel wheels with full covers, driver's airbag, ABS + EBD, all power-features, 60:40 split folding rear seats.

Kia Rio 1.4 LX MT: P695K
Kia Rio 1.4 EX MT: P695K
Kia Rio 1.4 EX AT: P745K

Maybe these new "better equipped" affordable sub-compacts will make Kia add more features to the local spec Rio.
    Higher spec Rio with airbags...

    Nice steering wheel.
