thanks rio5, has anyone driven the Rio in the extreme rain weather we had recently? how does it drive. Sorry I'm comparing all else to my Gen1 RAV4 which has the sickness of splashing the water towards the windshield instead of towards the sides away from the car if speed is 30 and above.

    Thank you for waiting guys!

Here's my report on the 1st PMS and FC troubleshoot:

The Rio5 was checked-in last Wednesday morning and was pulled out last Saturday late afternoon, or a total of 4 working days at the Kia Service Center. For the 1st 1K PMS: Oil was changed including the filters except the air element. Air-con filter cleaned and front suspension rattles was checked but no repair as there was no defect detected. Front suspension still rattles on road gaps such as in bridges though.

As for the FC, the car was tested on a 2-Liter canister, fabricated for fc evaluation purposes by Kia Service Center. The car was taken to the city center and back for a total of 12.7kms of travel. According to the technician who provided me the details of the test, the container was almost empty when the car arrived at the service shop or approx. 1.9L consumed. The FC:

    12.7kms/1.9L = 6.68km/L or if the estimated fuel consumed is at 1.8L (Best/Lowest), FC = 7.05km/L

Pics below are taken inside the Kia Service Lounge: (sorry for the poor shot, Sammy Galaxy Note camera sucks)
    A. Canister shown by the Kia technician
    B. Closed-up shot
    C. Filters & Canister assembled together (sorry, pic was corrupted)
    D. Technician's notes of the actual fc testing

According to the technician, the ECU was reset along with software patch to fix air-con system load that according to him as informed by Kia Manila, may have contributed to the poor fc.

I am on my 6th Full tank last Sunday and the 5th Full tank yield was (manual computation): 176kms/33.95L Petron XCS = 5.18km/L!

I will report soon on fc improvement after I emptied this 6th full tank of XCS. So far, power has noticeably increased after the check-up and it runs smoother on highway now with improved power on over-takings. Starting on uphill climb is still a problem though as it's so mabagal and so slow that it almost stall. Once momentum is gathered the engine power comes alive. Great!

Hopefully your FC does improve with the ECU reset.

I must say though, Kia's service and attention to your problem is pretty impressive, especially when compared to reports of Accent owners before, who said that HARI simply shrugged off their FC problems as "normal".

lahat ba ng naka rio 1.4AT kelangan itong software patch para sa aircon? kasi kung may patch ang kia, ibig sabihin may problema na rin silang na encounter na low mileage ang nakukuha.

Yep, impressive to the extent that they even note down on my service manual the following: 1K PMS, Fuel consumption problem and front suspension rattle! They told me my Rio5 fc is not what they expected and told me also to wait for further notice as Kia Manila is still looking at the problem and solution to improve my fc.

I requested for a detailed report on the fc test and fix/es applied as references. I'll post it as soon as I got it.

Also, did I mention I got a vehicle loaner during my car was on service? They supplied me a Kia Picanto 2004 model! The SA told me the Sportage and the better rides were all being used by Kia executives for the week because they are opening the new Kia Bldg. outlet in Iligan City. I don't care it's a Picanto, beggar don't choose!

I actually was wondering and asked them the relevance of air-con load affecting my fc but I was told it indeed affected the fc and was the only thing they suspect at the time. They don't find anything wrong with the ECU settings but in any case was reset to re-fresh. I am still waiting for further notice by Kia Service to fix my fc issues and right now I am monitoring the improvement, if ever there is.

thanks weisshorn for the info, ngayon ang tanong ko naman does it affect the fuel consumption ng rio5 natin, gaya ng nasabi ko sa thread ng hyundai accent ni reprogram nila ecu sabay adjust sa euro 2 kaya ok na accent ngayon, now sa nasabi naman ni cyberian about his rio5 aircon patch, does this mean na kailangan natin dalhin lahat unit natin to have it check, pansin ko lang aircon ng kia kakaiba di tulad ng sa toyota nissan mitsubishi honda, nadidinig mo kapag nag engage na compressor at mag automatic sya dependae sa pihit ng thermostat mo, the colder the longer ang shut off,sa kia rio wala ako marinig kahit anong sound, napansin ko lang cruising na ko between 10-20km/hr pag on ko aircon bibilis takbo ko instead of the other way around, can someone explain this to us,baka kasi iba na technology na gamit ng kia pero yun aircon parts nila although korean made na DAWOON licenced sya ng denso japan.

that is the ECU compensating for the a/c load.. kahit sa carens crdi ganyan.. iba ang hatak pag naka on ang a/c kasi nag cocompensate ang engine for the additional load... pag medyo nag struggle ang engine mo or bigla ka tumapak sa gas pedal ng todo, automatic bibitaw ang a/c to give you extra power...

sa vios ganyan din.. maingay lang talaga yung magnetic clutch at compressor nya... sa toyota kasi cold zone lang unlike sa rio may hot zone yan... the best na gawin pa din to control your cabin temp is to manually turn off the a/c

I have the same observation. The Rio air-con is so silent that I can't tell if the compressor has engaged or not unlike the rest of the vehicles I've driven. There is no compressor load "shock" to the engine- no noise nor vibration. You can only be able to tell the compressor is engaged when the air coming out of the vents start to cool. Convincing!
