Guys, I need your opinion with regards to this. I think my Carens is going to have serious engine issues :'(
While going up Kennon road a few hours ago (exactly 7 pm), there was a minor landslide at Camp 2. There were stones of different sizes that littered the road. I tried to run cross one stone but unfortunately, it scraped the underside of my Carens. So I continued to drive for about 20 kms more.
Then when I reached Camp 7, the engine gradually shook and died and smoke emitted from under the hood. I couldn't start it anymore. I was stuck on a sharp uphill curb (just right after the Lions head). Good thing there were a number of guys who helped push up my Carens to a safer spot on the other side of the road.
Then when I looked underneath, oil was dripping. My suspect was that the oil pan was struck and punctured when I hit that stone. So I had it towed to Kia Baguio. My question is, is the engine totally damaged? What could be the worst possible scenario? I dread to hear the bad news but I think this is covered by insurance (own damage). Kia Baguio will open by Tuesday July 17 because Monday here is a holiday so I really won''t have any idea as to what could be the damage until Tuesday. Tomorrow is a Sunday.
Thanks in advance for your inputs. I badly need this right now.

July 15th, 2012 09:46 PM #1055*Hanren, possible that your carens lost a lot of oil so the engine seized. I'm not a mechanic but I experienced a blown radiator once and engine immediately died due to overheating (corolla 92 xe model). After radiator was replaced, it was running again. Hope your car just needs additional oil and oil pan replacement.

yes, distilled pala, thanks!
regarding sir hanrens issue, i have also experienced oil drained while i was running but with a rocsta jeep, it shook and died also after some kilometers tapos ayaw na mag start, naputol kasi yung hose somewhere, bale ni-replace lang yung hose, naglagay ng bagong oil tapos push start kasi ayaw na sa ignition key mag start e, nag ok naman sya, hope yun lang din nangyari sa carens mo at nothing serious

July 16th, 2012 05:30 PM #1060The worst thing to do is running the engine without oil!!
Kaya namatay ang makina dahil 1. Bumaba ang oil level so nawalan ng suction ang oil pump which resulted to low oil pressure, low oil pressure then activated the engine shut down. Check the engine if you can rotate the crankshaft at least 2 revs manually, of course turning using the wrench in the front pulley lock bolt. Kung ok then you can proceed to drain/flush out the remaining oil & changed oil. 2. Seized con-rod & main bearings due to low oil pressure or no oil flow at all. In this case major overhaul is a must. That will make a hole in your pocket. HTH
