I have experience like this. . .convoy kami bayaw ko sa NLEX, he was using ford escape, ako XUVi 2004. . . ako im cruising at the spped of 90-100. . . sabi nya sya naman ay around 100-120 na. .

There are a good number of reason how an engine performs. Upgrades, lubes used, are some to mention why it performs 'better' than others.
Engine performance is also dependent on 'how' you use it.... particularly diesel engines. I would like to assume that the owner of that Crosswind that trailed you often pushes his to it's limits. If he often drive his Crosswind on high speeds (i.e. highways), it is likely that his fuel lines are clear (clean), no carbon deposits and engine is 'tuned' to high speeds.
That is why engines often stuck in traffic are more 'stressed' than engines that often run on high speed.

Try changing the filter first....
as above, if you want to go OEM-style, get a "spare tyre lock". but i use an ordinary cheap...
