2nd hand Isuzu Alterra: Is it worth buying?

Good afternoon tsikot users. Could you possibly help me on this. My friend is selling me his 2005 white isuzu alterra manual. He wants me to pay a certain downpayment and assume the financing balance. He has paid 24 mos already, thus 24 mos remaining. His monthly is 34k per month. How much do I offer as downpayment? Odometer is only 10k plus. Is it worth buying. What are the problems in the engine or in the performance that I may encounter. Thanks

hello sir! i own a 2007 alterra 1 month old. sa engine po wala po kayo problema dyan basta sundin nyo lang po ang PMS nya. super tipid po sa diesel ang alterra. medyo matigas lang po yata ang 2nd row seat nya meron kasi jump seat yata yan. sa downpayment naman po magkano po ba offer nya sayo? kailangan po kasi sya mag offer nang D/P hindi ikaw...

Nga pala, I owned a 2005 Alterra too. So far no problems yet. Mas maganda pa nga performance nito sa Fortuner ko...

Hello to all!!! Im jefsan and im thinking of getting a 2005 Alterra too. I test drove one, At, 38tkms, but at around 40-60kph it starts to wiggle. Whats wrong with this alterra? Im paying gud money so I want to make sure the unit runs ok before I pay d full amount (920k). Can any1 help me?

I like the alterra. Better than the fortuner IMO. Mas gusto ko ang ride niya and it looks sturdier.

Hi...your friend should be the one to drop a price for you to consider before you decide to purchase the unit...check the vehicle for any mechanical or electrical faults...it's better to have a reliable mechanic when you test drive the unit (almost three years and a 10k odometer reading does'nt guarantee a headache free driving)...Good Luck

The tires seem ok , abt 70-80% thread. We brought it to Isuzu Quezon ave and they said needs camber alignment. Charging the dealer P1500. but he didnt have it repaired cuz he has a relative who can fix the unit. So u guys think price is still high for a 2005 model? D Sta Fe? is it better than d Alterra? Help me out guys before I make a bad decision. I initially wanted a 4tuner diesel but havent seen one for my budget.

The tucson is just a 5 seater. My family wants a 7 seater and we have looked at the Innova, carens, and Fuzion already. Even Pajero and Adventure, last was the Isuzu xti. So I've gone around na and so far the Alterra fits the criteria with matching good fuel consumption. But I'm still open to suggestions from you guys. Is it true that the alterra requires special Isuzu oil or is it ok to use rev x or castrol?

Just use your money as down payment for a brand new 2007 Santa Fe CRDi and you will be happier. For a little bit more, you'll have a better purchase.

im planning to buy a second hand alterra '06 model... ask ko lang mga tsong kung same pa rin yun dun sa unang labas nung '05? any differences? reasonable ba yung price 1.140M kasi ang asking price nya 24k 4x2 matic? ok lang ba yung price o mashadong mahal? d ko pa din sya nakikita kasi ngayon lang naalok sakin... ano po ba yung mga minor at major na sira naexperience ng mga kind owners natin d2 sa forum para yun agad yung macheck ko kapag sinilip namin yung unit?

Isuzu has face-lifted the Alterra so many times since releasing it in mid 2005, that its a bit hard to keep track. They changed the headlights and front end last year (2007).

Peace of mind is a little easier to come by with a brand new unit, IMO.

I suggest you bring a good mechanic with you to inspect the unit. If the unit is still in good condition try to negotiate at least to 1.1M then it’s a good buy. Alterra is indeed a reliable SUV for me even in tough conditions. You can use it as long as you want, punish it, use it in rough roads but it will still remain/ feels like brand new…

Sa Totoo lang buying second hand is a second hand you never know the real truth if what is the reason behind that why they are selling the unit even he's your brother(some times!!!).... ang ibig ko sabihin kung makapagtiis ka ba ng ilang panahon eh bakit hindi pa pagipunan at bago na ang bilhin mo at least masasabi mo ikaw ang naka virgin ng pedal di ba. At Sir iba po talaga ang bago, sa totoo lng kaka benta ko lng ng Land Cruiser ko 96 model VX, and I bought one Sportivo 2008 model walastig ubod ng tatag ng Land Cruiser ko pero Sir iba po talaga ang bago!!!
