My rear shocks are busted again (blame isuzu for subcontracting substandard shocks).

Anyway, Im planning to change to KYB gas adjust soon (after my warranty claim) since I'm pretty sure it won't last long.

Is the KYB standard among pick-ups? I mean do I have to look for a product code before buying or do i just have to show the sample of my existing shocks for the measurements? What are the possibilities of getting one compatible for my rig? Hope its easy to find.

Has anyone tried KYB's on their DMaxs? Inputs are highly appreciated.

    TIA

    Jason,
Pautang. hehe. Mahal ang OME eh. Pag nagkapera ako upgrade nalang ako-pag may extra in the future.

    MR,
Mahirap kabuhayan ngayon eh.

    Kimps,
So ang hahanapin ko lang is KYB for 4x4 pick-ups? I mean is it a standard size for pick-ups? Okay ang KYB, tried and tested ko na din yan before sa L200 ko (tho 4x2 yun).

Up ko lang and follow up question:
Is it okay if I put gas type shocks in the pick-up rear or should it be fluid type? I'm also considering Monroe Magnum 60's as it si within my budget also. Have anyone tried this?

Hmm... Paging ARB, yoohoo!

yes gas shocks ang OEM ng D-max they are made by Tokico or KYB. will check I think we have some lying around. If you want to save try to get na lang other kind of branded shocks. Sayang pera mo sa KYB, for me its worst than the stock.

Pareho pala tayo kim. No complaints.

O baka dahil magaan lang talaga yung Vitara. hehehe.

    'Tep,

I was thinking of the Magnum series. Magnum 60 to be exact. Already inqured from our friend in 4x4ph regarding availability for Dmax. And meron daw sila. But i'm still wondering how it compares vs. kyb gas adjust vs oem.

Haven't tried Magnums yet. I usually get KYB's. Hindi maganda review ng Monroe sa 4x4wire. And kahit U.S. site siya, budget conscious pa din mga tao so you won't hear everyone clamoring for Bilstiens, Ranchos, etc.

Thanks for the tip doc. What were the negative feedbacks on Monroe? Is it particulaly directed to the Magnums?

Ano nga pala ang difference ng Monotobe and the other kinds of shock absorbers if you can enlighten me a bit. KYB gas ajust and Monroe Magnums are still monotubes right?

KYB, Bilstein, OEM are monotubes. OME, Rancho, monroe, tough dog, are twin tube. advantages of mono is it dissipates heat faster since the tube is the body itself, disadvan is if you hit and dent it bye bye shocks. twin tube there is an inner tube and an outer tube. disadvantage is its bigger limited applications. there are many other reasons pa.

    ARB,
Thanks. Would it be beneficial if I install the high end ones on my Dmax (say OME or Ranchos) even if I dont go offroading? Ocassional out of town trips lang. And the bed is usually unladen - but should also take the beating when needed.

OME or Ranchos at the rear, then Cheap Monroes or KYB in front - is this a good setup?

I suggest you get better shocks in the front first. this is based on our experience. I would rather put high quality shocks in the front and leeave the rear to originals.

Thanks for the Tip ARB. All the while I thought that I should compensate the rear's harshness with quality shocks first to improve the ride.

    Thanks for the great link!

    2Dmax,
dont want to invert leaf springs. Current setup is good enough for me since im on the flex ride na. I'm thinking of replacing the shocks lang kasi im not confident with the stocks of Isuzu (2x na nagleak rear shocks ko). I like going on out of town trips pa naman and am planning to travel up north to Sagada soon.

    Hi DJerms!

IMO, if you got some extra moolah for the best shocks in the market then go for it or kung katulad din kita na nagtitipid i'll go with KYB. It's much better than your leaking OEM shocks. Peace of mind 'ika nga.

    Wow Sagada!
Djerms, you've been there before, right? I mean ikaw mismo nag drive sa road? Ingat lang sa byahe, lalo na pag umuulan, maraming nahuhulog na bato and eroded na lupa along the way. I've been there several times, pero I would not want to drive (unless thirsty ka talaga for off road adventure..hehee.. that is like 5 to 6 hours from baguio of bumpy ride) ayaw ko lang isipin na mahuhulog ang sasakyan sa bangin in one false move ba... hindi kase na mababa lang mga bangin, medyo mataas talaga... like I said, been there, pero nag hire kami ng bumabyahe dun (mga sanay na sa daan, pero may na aaksidente pa rin sa kanila) and then one time bisikleta from Baguio, took us 10 hours on the bike (when I was still based/working in Baguio, hence my logname: Paulbaguio). Pero I think maingat ka naman and have the skills to do offroading, then that should be no problem for you.
