    Hello peeps,

Just had my first 'major' problem with my almost three year old max. About four days ago it suddenly started hiccuping when it reaches 2k rpm. The local Isuzu shop replaced the two fuel filters after finding a lot of sludge.

Still the hiccuping continued. Today, fortunately, a technician from Isuzu Mandaue (Cebu) was in town and was able to diagnose the system with his computer and found nothing wrong. Initially, he thinks its just the dirt in the fuel system. As of this moment, I'm still awaiting the advice from his head (in Cebu) as to what has to be done next.

    What do you think guys?

    Guys,

Thanks to this thread.

jubilum - when the 'hiccup' comes on, how does the engine react? Does it lag or hesitate? My first guess would be the fuel injectors. Second would be the throttle system.

Also, the turbo kicks-in at 2k rpm so that may also be a source of the hiccup.

For the record, I have my fuel filter replaced every change oil knowing how dirty our diesel is here. It is quite normal that I find sludge, dirt in the can yet my engine runs fine.

    Hey Memphis,

The engine hiccups, meaning it hesitates for an instant and then continues to accelerate. When the fuel filters were replaced, the hiccups even worsened- now the hiccups start at about 1.25K. That's when the technical guy from Cebu came in and found nothing wrong with the electronic system. I'll be calling him today for advice from the main office in Cebu.

By the way, for the record, I do my PMS very religiously--and only at casas. Either at the local dealer here in Dumaguete or at Mandaue Cebu. As changing fuel filters are part of regular PMSs, I presumed 'they' changed it regularly (every 10K per our manual).

I suggested bringing down the entire fuel tank and draining it. I'll see if the casa concurs...
