guys need your inputs. gusto ko na rin i-upgrade yung audio nung tucson ko (theta gl). just have a few parameters:

1.) as much as possible, i don't want to change the HU. gusto ko kasi talaga mukhang OEM lang.
2.) currently changed the door speakers already (separates sa front, 2-ways sa rear, audible dynamics). should i have an amp for these? any recos and how much?
3.) kung mag subwoofer pa, any recos how to make this "hidden"? ayoko ng sub box sa trunk, kasi maliit na yung trunk nung tucson. what brand how much and where can i get this?
4.) should i bother with these or wag na since ayoko rin magpalit ng HU? nainis lang kasi talaga ako, narealize ko ang pangit nung tunog nung stock.

    tia!

sir mda_, IMHO i think mas ok talaga kung papalitan mo yung oem na HU...i believe this will really change the sound quality kahit stock speakers...lalo na siguro kung upgraded na... for your second question, i think the answer is YES...ok na 4ch amp...madaming mura na ok ang quality... you have JBL, DC audio, sound magus... HTH!

about sa sub mo sir, pwede naman nakatago yan or stealth set up. visit ka na lang sa mga car audio shops like candy shop, mickeys, mach2, etc... kasi mas alam nila yan and mas ok na makita nila auto mo para mas may maisip sila na magandang setup para sayo.

To give you an idea for #3. Here's a picture of Monch's Tucson (he's a friend so I doubt he'll mind if I go promoting his car )

Notice on how the subwoofer box is conformed around the side of the trunk. I think people has this idea that subwoofer always need a ton of space.. it doesn't need to be as long as you do not plan to compete in loudness/decibel matches ;)

Some more additional pictures (this one is also a friend and a fellow Tsikoteer too!)

Amplifier and subwoofer rack all-in-one. I'd say that's still a ton of trunk space for my taste.

ganda nung first setup. i like it, makes use of the tight space sa trunk ng tucson. since you can't recline the 2nd row, sakto ito. where was this work done if you don't mind? i guess this is a pretty high-end install, complete with the head unit?

kung ganito setup lang mas obvious = kelangan ng matinding paalam sa misis. hehe :P

Everything depends on your budget. To get the best out of car audio, you need to cancel out the inherently bad environment - car acoustics. This is why DSP (digital signal processing) and proper speaker placements are vital. If I would be putting it in percentile importance: 80% DSP/placements, 20% equipments. In other words, even if you have a 100k speaker.. it'll be crap when you do not have DSP and proper placements.

    1. If you do not want to change the stock head unit, you may opt to install an external processor. However, external processors are pretty expensive (most retail around 30k) compared to the most affordable head unit with proper tuning functions which is the Alpine CDA-9887 (second-hand prices around 10k). Alternatively, you can also look for 90s external processors such as Audiocontrol EQX that has individual left and right EQ capabilities (which in turn functions more or less like time alignment). However, these are pretty rare nowadays.

    2. Do you listen loudly? If yes, then an amplifier is needed. I can say with certainty that getting an amplifier will greatly improve your sound. This is because stock head units usually just throws around 20W to the speakers versus the 60-100W an amplifier would provide.

    3. Be creative in doing the box mold then. A subwoofer need not be always at the back, you can actually mount it in the front passenger cabin. Also, I'm not a fan of powered subwoofers since any properly deadened door with a 6" midbass can outperform any 8" active sub. If space is at a premium, you may opt to look for "shallow-mount" subwoofers.

    4. As it all boils down to your budget, these are items that are important: deadening -> amplifier -> subwoofer -> DSP. Pursue them from left to right. If you aren't the type to fiddle around with your head unit settings, I suggest you start doing it. it's free after all. As with most people, go adjust your tone controls: bass, mid, treble. Most people prefer a U shaped frequency curve, this means boosting the bass and treble.

this makes most sense to me. can you recommend a good shop? i've heard mickey's does good work pero medyo malayo. anything from the qc area? thanks for all the help. i'm realizing though that this is really tricky to do. iniisip ko rin kung better na unti-untiin or have it done in one go since i plan to hang on to the car for about 2 years na lang so baka di ko rin fully ma-appreciate if it's done really slowly.

My installer is Mickeys Autosound so yep, good work.. but tad bit pricey. I guess that's what being #1 costs :D If from the QC area, my suggestion is always (and will always be) Banawe. Suggested shops are Maspro (Vince) and Candyshop (Nogz). There are also some others such as Jetcar, DAWG Audio, Ginza, Perfect Circle, etc. and you won't really go wrong with them.

The difference with Banawe shops versus dedicated car audio workshops such as Blueprint, JC Car Audio, or Mickeys is the quality of work done. While in Mickeys I can expect to have top-class craftmanship and installation, it's not always smooth sailing sa Banawe. In short, paminsan kilangan mo pa turuan mga boys sa Banawe. Of course, your wallet would be paying less too since you'd be surprised on how much their "experience" costs among the big car audio shops (hint: average of 30k+ for the woodworks, boxes, installation, etc.)

Monch installer is Jonz of Simplesounds in Antipolo (kung nalalayuan ka kanila Mickey, masmalayo pa 'to ng 10mins coming from QC). I like Jonz is because he's a literal one-man army.. Wala siya helpers as he runs his business down at his garage in his house. This means installation is top-notch and meticulous... getting to eat his wife's cooking is also a bonus I guess Contact number.... 0917 581 2525 ;)

The Polk MM sub should be around 5-6k brand new.. as for the enclosure, I got no idea. In most cases kasi, installers simply bill us "woodworks" cost so this includes the amplifier rack, sub box, and all other wooden things they constructed. But as a rough estimate, 2-3k probably as this is the going rate of most amplifier enclosures.

I'm pretty sure most installers (such as Tsikotshop) can fabricate the same enclosure ;) It isn't hard naman talaga but just give them a rough idea how to.

I got no idea how much Jonz quoted Monch but his setup is mid-high level na. As a taste of brand new prices of equipments:

    HU - Pioneer P99RS (36k)
    Seps - Focal Polyglass VR3 (30k)
Amplifiers - Focal FPS 4160 (38k) and 1500 (32k); Genesis Profile Two (25k; but he bought this secondhand.. around 15k ata)
    Sub - Polk MM1040 (5-6k)

Due to demand, here's some more pictures (I'll tell Monch he needs to pay a publicity fee na rin nga)

And the front-stage. He's still using his old head unit - Eclipse 7200MKII here
