I would have gone for the first wall I would see. At the start of the acceleration, you could hear the driver apply the handbrake. I would still wonder though why would the car manufacturers let ECU access to accelerate the car. I know they do that to increase/decrease idling but there should be a hardware to limit any acceleration initiated by the ECU.
i wonder what would have happened if the driver shifts the gear to P immediately.
but everything happened so fast na its difficult to decide on what to do na.
Just curious, ano kaya age bracket ng mga na involve sa SUA na ito.
Sa first video "elderly Korean couple" yung sa ibang video kaya?
once i accidentally changed gear to reverse on my corolla lovelife a/t while running at 60kph. The engine just died, had to tottaly switch off the key at full stop to restart it again.
these are the reasons that i would still buy a manual car for as long as my left leg can push down on the clutch pedal.. i read this article and it got me thinking..
Manual Transmission? What
put the gear in N, R or P. pull hard on the hand brake and IF the foot brake still works, stand on it (sabi sa ibang forums the footbrake does nothing during these SUS instances).
last resort is to put the gear in N and switch off the engine, then try to start it again with the vehicle still moving. stopping the engine results to loss of power steering and brakes so you should only switch it off when all else fails. you'll need to start it again to regain power steering and brakes.
Here are a couple of Kia K5's (of course, Hyundai owns Kia) that appears to have the SUA bug.
No audio:
Same model, different car. You can hear the driver seemingly stomping on something. It could be the brakes or the accelerator pedal (maybe he's trying to free it, thinking that it's physically stuck).

A stuck pedal assembly or trapped pedal is always the most likely scenario in these situations, if there's a physical (non-driver) cause. If you hear them trying to unstick the pedal, that's it.
The question here is whether those are cable-throttle cars or electronic throttle ones. If it's cable throttle... then it's possible the cable got stuck. If it's electronic, no. The answer will lie elsewhere... either with the mat or with the actual throttle assembly sticking.
Ang pagbalik ng comeback...
I think there's one apparent description missing in most SUA incidents. In that, the throttle wasn't stuck at 1/4 or even 1/2. From the roar of the engines, they seemed to have been 'set' to WOT, whether accidentally or uncommanded. No driver in their right mind would go WOT in most of the circumstances in the videos above (ie. turning right at a tight corner, at a traffic light but behind another car, etc.)
Even while driving on the highway, unless you're actually doing spirited driving, most drivers are in the habit of feathering the gas pedal. So if it went from that to WOT without the driver commanding it, it could be the throttle servo, ECU, or the throttle position sensor (either on the pedal or throttle assembly).
Now, an epileptic driver is another thing.
Feeling ko fake yan. I doubt mag full throttle yun sudden acceleration. And besides, bilis lang naman solution dyan, the letter N.
before this accident, may news na rin sa yahoo na may gagawing batas sa US na mandatory na ang car black box. hindi ko lang matandaan kung aling state. nabasa ko rin na ngayon pa lang pinoprotestahan na because of, as usual, privacy issues..

Uhh.... what seems to be the problem here?
im digging if there's a video of CCTV on the net with this news 4 teens killed in Ayala Alabang car crash | ABS-CBN News
and it led me to this thread.
maybe it is really time as this article says Is it time for a car black box? | Inquirer Business
