Have you considered the other cars in the segment?

When canvassing kasi, one should also take note of the maintenance costs involved aside from the up-front payment. Kadalasan kasi, up-front price lang yung nakikita.

To add further information, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Hyundai require a 5K KMs/3 months (whichever comes first) maintenance interval, while with Honda, you can do 10k/6 months interval. For the former 3 brands, the oil is good for 10K KMs/6 months; but will be changed if you go past 5K on the every 3 month checkup. BETTER CLARIFY THIS WITH THE DEALERS.

I'd also recommend you get a maintenance schedule with the costs of each car so that you can better weigh its pros and cons/cost of ownership over the length of time you expect to own the car. With my experience with Toyotas, Hondas and Hyundais, the Hyundais tend to have higher maintenance costs than the Toyotas and the Hondas. (You shouldn't take my word for it! Go verify this with your own research!)

I think most cars with the 1.6L option don't really lack in power nowadays. Do you really need the extra 200cc of engine power? If you run a lot on the highway and do a lot of overtaking, then I guess it's justifiable. But from what I hear, the 1.6AT isn't a snail either.

Fuel efficiency + kaskasera doesn't really mix. The best fuel saving device is really the weight of your right foot ;) If you remove that from the equation, you'll probably want to go with the Altis 1.6 or the Elantra 1.6. These variants will be sipping gas much less than the 1.8L competition.

With regards to safety features, you should be looking for the airbags, abs+ebd options. Most compact cars nowadays have this but some have airbags only for the driver. The Elantra 1.6MT only has single airbag (driver), same as the Altis G variant and lower. Everything else comes with dual airbags and abs+ebd standard.

**Note, I am not biased for nor against the Elantra. I just want you to consider the other options before writing them off. Also, I do not have experience with other brands which is why I did not include them in my comparison.

The Vios, Accent, Avanza, Jazz and City are all subcompact cars. The Elantra is classified under the compact segment and being more upscale and all will definitely feel bigger, more upscale, more luxurious and better built. The subcompacts (especially with their smaller 1.3L - 1.5L engines) will be easier on fuel though.

The Elantra's competitors in terms of size, features and price range are the Toyota Altis, Honda Civic, Mitsubishi Lancer EX, Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze, Subaru Impreza. Not sure if I left any out.

Yup, parang bata na nga ata (even if I don't have any) ang car ownership. Panay gastos lang, pero masaya naman

Very deep scratches, no. You can probably tell that it's a deep scratch if you can feel your fingernail going inside.

Light scratches, rubbing compound/buff/polish can do that. Kung di ka marunong, punta ka sa local detailing shop para gawin nila.

However, the process involves wearing the surrounding paint down to the level of the original scratches (which is why you can no longer "see" them). I'd suggest iwan mo nalang.

The other option is of course spot repaint (kapag maliit lang yung area), but nothing matches the quality of factory paint - even when the casa does it. I'd therefore just suggest you leave it as is.

Hmm mejo same tayo ng situation, pero isa lang sa nabanggit yung mejo nakikipagcompete sa Elantra for me-- The Lancer EX. Decided na ako nung August at unit na lang hinihintay, yung kulay kasi na gusto which is red ay wala. Hanggang sa nainip na ako. eto balik Elantra, believe me napagisipan ko ding yang iba like Altis, Cruze, Civic, Focus, etc.. Pero talagang bumabalik ako sa Elantra, kung ano talaga ang nasa puso mo sundin mo lalo na for me eh 1st car ko if ever at matagal kong gagamitin. By the end of November kukuha na ako ng Elantra, ang pinagiisipan ko na lang eh kung 1.6 or yung 1.8. Sulit din kasi yung high end variant nito. :-)
