December 7th, 2008 11:19 PM #1Hi guys,
total noob here...
I sometimes drive a Civic 1.8 S A/T to and from work...
I was just wondering if it's OK to put the transmission in N when going down from higher terrain hehe (e.g. sa EDSA pag pababa at sobrang traffic) Syempre ginagawa ko neutral na lang tapos papabayaan ko na sya bumaba... then break na lang as necessary...
OK lang ba un? ^^
thanks thanks

I don't know if it ILLEGAL (like you know a law states that you can't do that) but its not ADVISABLE to do that. For your car you are putting stress on the brakes since the engine is not helping on the brakes. Safety wise being in neutral you don't have the gear to move you in case you need it. And since A/T naman yan you don't have to step on a clutch so wala naman problem dyan. Mas maiintindihan ko pa yung mga M/T users since nakakapagod talaga ang clutch kapag traffic...

December 8th, 2008 11:12 AM #6GUYS.. read again the TS said "e.g. sa EDSA pag pababa at SOBRANG TRAFFIC" do you need engine brake sa traffic?? take note of the SOBRANG TRAFFIC
as for me ok lang na put your AT at N while in stop in a traffic or stoplight also kung medyo pababa yung road at HEAVY TRAFFIC na paunti unti lang ang usad eh ok lang mag free wheeling ka at brake..kung M/T gamit mo ganun din naman gagawin mo kasi no need umarangkada pa sa bagal...
but kung medyo maluwag at pababa ang road delikado yun kasi you loose engine brake that can help during heavy braking like for example pababa ka ng baguio, without engine brake your brake pads and discs will surely FRY..
better to place the transmission on N at apply hand brakes when in a stop or traffic.. yung iba kasi sa P nilalagay..PARK nga eh hindi ka naman naka park.. meron kasi ako kasunod one time alam ko AT dala nya and nilagay nya sa PARK yung kotse while in a stop. (i know nasa park kasi umilaw yung reverse light nya) then nung biglang go na binusinahan ko sya siguro nagulat at imbes sa D ilagay eh na sa R pala sya pag tapak nya sa gas biglang atras yung kotse nya buti malayo ako...

Even if you don't need the engine break its still better to have it on gear, you never know you might need to move quickly...

December 9th, 2008 12:40 AM #8Whoa, hehe i never thought na it would be dangerous...
Thanks for the advice guys, appreciate it.
Kaso ang concern ko lang pag matraffic tapos naka D at nagbbrake ako, hindi ba makakasama sa car un?
Anyways, most of the time ang ginagawa ko naman talaga is hand brake at N when in heavy traffic sa EDSA...
Thanks again.

One dude told me it was Li-Ion. Another dude corrected him. AFAIK the Zenix gets the Li-Ion hence...
