Hello guys, new to the forums. I just want to raise a question and hoping to get some answers from people who have been to Port Irene already.

I'm planning to buy 96-98/99-00 Civic EK Hatch, LHD from Japan sana. Would Port Irene be the best place to go for what I am looking for? And how much would be the price range kaya? Friend of mine said that Port Irene has a wide selection for EK's and has a 'B' plate number which is hindi takaw-huli in our country.

I just want to confirm this and also get opinions from you guys before I personally go to far places para hindi sayang yung gas/effort/time. Thanks in advance mga pare.

AFAIK the Port Irene Civics are RHD units converted to LHD.

If you aren't too concerned about a shoddy conversion and its possible hazards, or you have set aside a budget for "correcting" the conversion, then jump right in.

    Cheers

    Just a note:

RHD to LHD conversion should include:

    -the obvious steering wheel relocation
    -dashboard & gauges
-headlights (headlights are biased to a side)
-sideview mirrors (just like headlights, they have different angles for RHD/LHD)
-wipers (if you are someone who is stickler for details)
-hood, trunk and fuelcap cover releases

Though it's nice, it might be best if you get 3rd hand ( 1st yung owner sa Japan. 2nd is yung 1st owner dito sa pinas. And 3rd would be you ) EK Hatches that are already converted and are already used by our co-pinoys here.

Para atleast the hassle of going through the conversion is undertaken by the 2nd owner already. There might be problems and some repairs that you might encounter but that would be already minimal if we're looking at " fresh " units. However, if the unit that you would look into is beaten up ( raced, modified extensively etc. ) then I would suggest that you look into a different one or just get the PI units and wish that you would not have any major problems regarding its conversion.

Yeah that 1st item is a critical one in terms of safety. Make sure LHD steering rack and rods were used in the conversion.

I also heard that brake lines are manually bent in the conversion process causing constrictions in the hydraulic lines. A friend told me that original LHD brake plumbing should be used for peace of mind.

Don't take risks with steering and braking, IMHO.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Yeah, thanks for correcting me Bananatype, it's RHD then converted to LHD, not the other way around, must've been confused last night when posting.

Alright, I will check all of those on the list that ghosthunter provided.
Thank you for all the inputs from everyone, much appreciated Bananatype, Renzo_D10 and ghosthunter, kudos to you guys.

I'm still saving up for the ride though, so the Port Irene trip might still be a few months away from now. Can't wait to get my hands on a fresh/good condish EK, I'll work on all the internal parts first then external would be the last thing I would rectify. I wouldn't mind driving with a bad body paint as long as all my internal parts won't give me headaches.

    EK Dream Project
    -1" Drop Lowering Springs
-HID (still undecided on what brand/kind.)
    -Spoon Wings
    -Spoon Side Mirrors
-16" Mags: Volks/Rays TE37 Copy (Rota Grid Racing)
    -Carbon Hood

-HID (still undecided on what brand/kind.) - Like what I recommend to my co-tsikoteers, do not go HID unless you're gonna slap on projectors. May it be bolt on or retrofitted. PNP HID's will only produce so much glare to oncoming traffic that even might ( though I hope it wont ) cause accidents.

    -Spoon Wings
    -Spoon Side Mirrors

~ if you're gonna go SPOON then go straight spoon. Spoon yellow body color. CF hood. CF trunk. CF wing. CF chin. Spoon windshield visors. Spoon side mirrors. Spoon muffler. Spoon decals. Spoon-themed engine cover. Spoon plate frames. Heck if you have the budget then go for Spoon calipers & brake pads.

-16" Mags: Volks/Rays TE37 Copy (Rota Grid Racing) - Er. 16's ? Pangit yan. Go for CE28n copies. Better if it's original. Color bronze. If you're gonna go Grids, pick Grid 2 then go for 17's takata green. Wrapped in Advan AD01's. :naughty2: <-- spoon din yang advan. hahah

Oh btw, CE28's are not with the spoon theme. However, these look better than those spoon rims which are black. Aka Rota slipstreams. Very .. very ugly.

-Carbon Hood - again, CF trunk din and CF spoon wing.

Correcting the conversion talaga should be the first step. Personally, next would be fixing the "Honda Rust".

Normally they appear on EG Civics.

Unless, sobrang beaten up nung kotse talaga. Hehehe.

Regarding plates, hindi yata. Though you can order a commemorative plate. That are the plates you see sa ibang mga civic na may plates na " EK9 " etc. etc.

Then again, malamang inayos na rin nga nung seller yung rust for better pricing.

Eh. 300k for a D15 hatch? Why? When you can get an SiR with a B16 for 350k?

I'd rather buy a non-converted unit with a more powerful motor than spend all my money on a slightly prettier hatchback with a puny 1.5, rear drum brakes and a hack and paste job on the steering rack.

    Ang pagbalik ng comeback...

with all the hassle of converting, 300k isnt worth it. suma total aabot ka 350k kung RHD pa.

Can't you like .... stay away from Hondas ?

One unit you could look into is the Ford Lynx RS M/T. You could get it with the same price as the SiR ( sometimes EVEN cheaper ) & it's helluva newer ( 2004 vs. 1999/2000 SiR ) & of course, much more comfortable.

ang mahirap sa coverted, meron mga hindi masisilip basta basta like the cross membrane etc. mas ok to get RHD then kuha pyesa. kaya dapat kuha lang niyan mga 200k. not worth all the trouble IMO.

I'd say 250 is a fair price for a well-converted unit. Or actually, 200. But then, asking prices for secondhand Civics are always un-naturally high.

Rarity is never a good reason to buy a car... but then... EK hatches aren't really "rare", considering every other shop has a Civic EK as a project car...

If you want something rare... get a Civic station wagon.

yeah, ang dami ngang hassle ng converted vehicles. thanks for pointing that out

i guess i'm gonna stop considering getting a "B plate" civic. kung di talaga ako makakakita ng maayos na SiR, i guess i'm going to start my project from a vti or lxi.

rare nga po yang wagon, i have yet to see one running on our streets... haha
