I don't know, parang ang Pinoy hindi masyado interested sa ganong shape. Kaya nga yung City may trunk. Yung Vios din, based on a US model with no trunk, di ba?
I think Toyota learned from the dismal sales of the Echo locally.
Even the wagon-types are fewer here. I don't know why. Sa US naman gusto nila ang station wagon pang pamilya before SUVs became all the rage. Maybe it's because of the funeral parlor connotation. I could be wrong.
There are a few Suzuki Esteem Wagons around, as well as MB wagons. The Matiz wasn't sold locally but there are a few, as well as the other small cars with that sort of shape...
may na sighting na ako sa Edsa.. vivid blue ang ganda! it was the stock model hindi yung modified. 2 college kids siguro 19-20 years old yung nakasakay.

For me the shape of the car is not just the issue when it comes to five doors. Considering Honda Civic hatch still rocks after 10 years. For me other considerations for not buying hatch are, car posture (notice toyota echo and hyundai matiz (ba?)) sits upright, and are also small, sporting 13inch wheels. These cars look very unstable compared to the low riding/ sporty looking Civic, and Mazda 3's.
kaya wala pa masyado sa daan kasi maaga pa masyado and i think car sales in general are a bit slow these days..
i think kaya naging ganun ang result ng research ng mazda about Old people buying hatchbacks is that yung tinutukoy nilang hatchback ay station wagons.. tulad ng mga volvo, subaru yung may mahabang likod.. at hindi yung mga tulad ng mazda 3 echo at jazz.. dont tell me your dad or lolo wants a mazda 3 hatchback or jazz as his car? ano siya ***y goyong? nagpapabata?....
hmmm, ung impression ko kaya di nag-click ang echo dito is because of the price tag. something like 890k+ ata ung echo....ung echo verso slightly higher.
regarding the research about 5-door passenger cars...maybe they meant station wagon-type cars, i.e. the ones you usually see small suburban families own sa tv/movies. the jazz is a lot more hipper than that imho, and generally speaking porma-conscious ung car buyers dito
ganun din sa jazz i think... let the teeners pull the parents into buying the jazz...
but from a practical point.. sa ganung pricing... medyo wala sa top list ko yung jazz... una wala naman akong anak na teenager na .. but more because of the jazz' pricing... and for the type of driving i do... and the kind of roads we have here...
sa pricing.. parang ang mahal masyado... compared with the city and jazz... head to head ang pricing nila... ang plus ng jazz is porma... which for me isn't that much desirable...
the type of driving i do is usually out of town trips occasionally with heavy cargo for the family business.. kaya pickup ang dala ko .. but am thinking about switching to a sedan na but yun nga... wala na cargo kung nagkataon...
kind of roads we have.... for this year di pa ata nangyayari yung bumaha sa metro manila na lubog lahat... but so far it has happened at least once every year since about 1991... pano kaya i handle ng jazz yun?
overall for me it's the price... if they can bring it down say another 20%, i'm sure mas marami talaga bibili...
majority prepared parin sedan, others think other than sedan, vans and SUV/AUV is not legitimate car to own.. especially first owned/timer car buyer..hehe>>
i saw the jazz kanina (yung dressed up, saka yung standard) sa honda kalookan. really nice. if i was still in the market for a car, i'd seriously consider getting it, over the city or vios. can't decide between the blue or the red. i like the dashboard, saka yung seats. guess i've always been partial to hatches, kasi i still like the 1.3 honda hatchback.
but i agree, it's overpriced. yung 1.3CVT nya costs almost the same as the 1.5 Vios, at P650K. For that price (and a little more), you can get the Chevy Optra, the Altis J, maybe the Civic low end model?
tapos, walang free. you pay for registration (2,400), rustproofing (4,950), tint (dunno how much, if with honda mismo).
Maganda daw hatak, our fleet manager test drived it. Comportable daw sa loob and really spacious. Dami daw ganda features pero parang nagmamaneho ka ng plantsa ( just like the city )
Maybe the reason its not selling so fast is that snooty attitude of Honda dealers not to give discounts. I mean they act as if lots of people are lining up to buy a Honda and there's no other car available excpt for a Honda. Mali sila diyan.
I love euro-styled hatchbacks. I own an Echo hatchback myself. When reading car magazines, I get turned on more by pictures of hatchbacks than by pictures of exotic and muscle cars. I dunno, I just love small cars...
The issue why Echo was phased out was because of the excise taxes then. The Echo hatchback was pretty steep at P 640 thousand and was perceived as not to be worth that much for a small car. Well, that's our car buying culture here. Sa pagbili ng sasakyan, dapat kasya buong angkan sa loob. That's why AUVs sold like hotcakes back then.
