Today is day 1 of my 2017 2.4 SX. Good partner to my IS350, which is why I had to let go of my beloved Civic since it was redundant to have 2 sedans.
We’ve had a 5th gen CRV for 4 years now so it’s much of the same really. Just that the 2.4 has much more low-end torque vs the 5th gen 2.0. AWD is also welcome though I don’t know where I’ll actually need it.
Handling of the 4th gen (RM) isn’t as planted as the 5th gen (RW), but ride comfort is in the same ballpark. Legroom isn’t bad either, though the cargo area is smaller than that of the 5th gen. I get power seats and rain-sensing wipers in the 2.4SX but lose out on the all-important Apple Carplay and Android Auto.
Compared to my Civic, it’s obviously much less fun for cornering and isn’t as attractive, but it’s undoubtedly more practical - more space, more ground clearance. It’s a more grown-up car, literally and figuratively. Perfect partner to the Lexus which has become my fun-to-drive option.

Congrats sa 2 bagong laruan.. Kung pagpalain ako baka hanggang Camry or ES350 lang, pang oldie. Hehe. Sa FB marketplace sila parehas nahanap? Tiyaga tiyaga din sa paghahanap ng units.
Hindi kaya redundant din ang 2 CRVs? Sabagay, nice to have ang AWD kung napadpad sa medyo rough road sa probinsiya.
New (old) shoes on the CRV. The spirit of the Civic lives on.

Congratz again bro. And really nice photography!
Apple carplay and Android Auto is easily shoehorned into a CRV. Tons of options.... Ayan lang gastos uli.
Save that moola for your Fortuner when it arrives. Am sure you will mod that too.

I actually enjoy the 4th gen CRV more than the 5th gen especially for provincial drives.
Sure it doesn’t look as nice and doesn’t have Carplay, but the 2.4 engine more than makes up for it.
Never felt lacking on power overtaking on the provincial highway even with a full load, whereas with the 2.0 5th gen (and also with the 1.6 diesel) you have to plan your overtakes better.

Turbocharged engines have improved so much in recent years and are now better than their NA counterparts most of the time.
The 1.5 L15 Turbo fitted on CRVs in other markets absolutely trumps the 2.4 K24 in terms of both performance and fuel economy. Too bad we don’t have it here.
Transmission is also a big factor. The 5th gen’s CVT is a much better transmission than the 4th gen’s 5AT. That said, the K24’s 30 hp advantage over the R20 can’t be compensated by the better transmission.

You're not alone, sir. A close relative who enjoyed his cruiser edition K24 was anticipating the gen5 for their family spare. He found it no better than what he had & ended up grabbing a 2nd gen4 identical to yours. Both have stayed trouble-free & well kept.
