    Pls. help... I don't know much about Honda cars (Mitsu Lancer lang konti..),
    and i'm planning to buy a second hand one... model 1998 to 2001 para medyo bago pakinggan(pakinggan lang heheh)... in Manual Transmission.
    mitsu singkit yung gamit ko dati... memories na lang sya ngayon...

    I'm going to use it for daily city driving approximately 4km total balikan,
    4 katao ang sasakay including me... and probably... 2 to 3 times na long drive kada buwan from Dasmarinas Cavite(home) to Olongapo City (dalaw
    sa biyenan)...

    I'm not into racing... daddy mode lang po palagi... siguro kung mag-upgrade
    man ako ay I/H/E lang...
    I just loved yung kapogian ng mga H na nakikita ko rito sa Cavite kahit
    stocks... at sabi nga nila... pangmalapitan at malayuan...

    so what's the best stock model on that year bracket with a max. displacement of 1.6?
    and can u pls give me the type of engines and displacement para ma-research na rin po...
    I always heard about this vti, vtec, sir, type-z... pero di ko alam kung ano kaibahan nila in terms of performance and durability...
    kaya ko naman yung mga prices(stock) na nakikita ko dito sa tsikot at
    sa sulit at may sobra pa po for maintenance... just wanna know what's
    the right one po na shoot sa mga binanggit ko sa itaas in terms of paggamit... so if you're going to ask me why not AUV's... nasa plano rin
    po iyun... so the plan is... isang second hand na kotse at isang brand
    new na AUV... sa ngayon kotse munang pang araw-araw...
    pwede po sana mga gurus yung tipong better and best ang tipo ng
    grouping or explanation...

    hmmm... mas pogi lang at malaking tignan heheh... coz they say na mas
    maganda pa rin ang Itlog type in performance and durability at fuel
    efficiency... ewan ko lang yung mga 2000 up models... tsismis lang hu
    yun sa akin ha...

    kaya medyo nabobo na po at di alam kung saan magsisimulang maghanap...

    i love it when people post questions with lots of details. makes things easier when composing an answer. do make this a habit, it's nice. quality post.

    1996-2000 civics are known as EK series civics. the EK nomenclature is for the body shape (boxy), at least, that's what i've been told. yung 2001 model with a different shape is code ES, and the current civic is FD.

    i would get a civic, instead of a city from this generation. the reason for that is space: the EK LXi variants use the same engine as the city, but the city is smaller and the EK is both wider and longer, so go figure...

    EKs also come with 3 engines, 2 of whom use the VTEC system, while 1 uses a plain old boring LXi non vtec engine. you can tell immediately sa location ng antenna: true 1.6 VTEC models have rear quarterpanel mounted electronic antenna, while LXis come with roof mounted manual pull antenna.

    there are also 2 generations of EK. 1996-1998, uses the PH16 VTEC 1.6 engine, pero yung ilaw sa likod maliit at may rubber sa bumper front and rear. 1999-2000 has bigger rear lights, redesigned front and NO rubber sa bumpers. still uses the same engine with the exception of the SiR which came with the B16 DOHC VTEC engine.

    i would buy an automatic if i were you. basta maayos pa yung automatic (walang garalgal, shifts smoothly at hindi amoy sunog na kahoy yung fluid) you'll have nearly the same fuel consumption as a manual. hi-tech na mga a/t ngayon lalo na sa honda, hindi na gaya ng kinalakihan natin na hydramatic na talagang lamon sa gas. sa honda ECU controlled na.

    1999-2000 looks better, bigger in my opinion. mas maayos tignan visually. if you really want a manual do get the SiR pero mahal pa presyo ng mga sariwa. never buy a "kargado" SiR... usually laspag na mga to kaya binebenta.

    next good buy would be 99-00 1.6 VTEC. excellent performance ang lakas din sa highway gaya ng SiR.

    last choice would be the 99 LXi. not as high performance as the other two, pero yung LXi ng utol ko sumasabay pa din naman sa mga high end cars nasa nagddrive lng cguro. medyo boring to drive though, kasi walang pull under 2000 rpm.

    as soon as you buy one, do get the engine seals, rocker cover gasket, timing belt and pulley system replaced, as well as all other drivebelts and fluids changed. check the fans, radiator, thermoswitch, and make sure it has a thermostat and the coolant is still color green (or red). basta may coolant. honda makes great, long lasting engines, basta wag lang pabayaan. kung a/t, change the fluid. use only HONDA ATF for this one trust me.

    hmmm... i forgot to mention endurance and lxi on my post pala heheh...
    matanong ku lang... about lxi's... kaya nya ba pangmalayuan? let's say...
    from dasma cavite to olongapo city... mga 3 stop-over... gas or kain lang...
    curious lang me kasi fuel efficient daw... pero kung ititirik naman me o maghihingalo sa expressway... ay sa vti-vtec na lang me... tama po ba?

    current ride ko po yung Lxi 2000 model. all i can say is... peace of mind sa road trip. ive traveled to baguio straight from manila and stop over to go to the bathroom and eat. then the next day, uwi na, ok naman performance and if hindi naman sobra padyak sa gas... ok talaga FC niya. i left manila with a full tank and then when i got to baguio, a little more than 3/4 pa gas ko. hehehe sulit IMO.

    para sakin na malaman yun!! gusto ko rin talagang malaman base sa
    experience
    ng mga may Honda w/ year model 98 to 2000 either vti-vtec,
    lxi or even city(type-z) yung mga pinakamalayong nabiyahe nila at
    kung anong mga na-experience nila sa kanilang car during the trip...
    heheh... hindi kasali yung mga sight seeing or ilan ang mga na-meet
    na girls or ilang chickenjoy ang nakain habang nagda-drive ha... hahah!!
    Inalis ko na rin yung option ko about SIR.. heheh 16DOHC... di na
    praktikal siguro under my status... so it's either vti-vtec or lxi...
    wala pa me idea about city(type-z) eh... Thanx bro!!

    dude, sa experience ko, yung 1.6 na 2001 models ng civic ang mas maganda na dalhin sa pangmalayuan. para kasing mas stable tumakbo sa highway at parang nagddrive ng mas malaking kotse.

    yung 96-00 models, sporty ang feel. nung bata ako gusto ko ng mga ganito. medyo mababa, parang nakasakay ka sa shoebox na kinakaladkad sa daan kasi medyo mababa yung tayo ng civic. responsive steering and very precise. basta walang kalampag masarap i-drive. kahit hanggang mindanao aabot mga civic basta maayos ang kundisyon.

    expect 10-12 FC across all models. i've yet to see a honda (and i've owned 4 na) break 15km/liter. kahit crv or EK/ES... pirming 10 ang baseline (any less at kulang sa maintenance or hataw driving palagi) at 12-13 ang pinakamataas. the best i could do is 11-12.

    a full tank for es/ek models gives you a range of 350 kms. maybe more kung pipigain.

    my experience driving long distance, is that you should get the windows and windshield tinted with good quality tints, the darkest you can stand. civics ride low to the ground, so yung glare sa daan pag summer talbog talaga lahat sa mata mo... very bad at very tiring. plus, medyo may kahinaan ang aircon across all models, so yung dark tints is a good idea. never use tabi-tabi tints, use 3m. jologs na tignan ang kulay ube na tint hehe.

    oo nga volts!! yun din nagustuhan ko sa porma ng mga Civics... parang mababa ang tayo... parang lowered kahit di lowered... astig talaga tignan...
    btw... thanx sa mga info... at yung pinakabago about tints and aircon...
    di pala pwede no tint at wetlook gel sa buhok para kita ang kapogian hahah...
    kidding aside... Thanx talaga sir... hmmm... one last question... bakit medyo
    mura yung mga type-z na Honda City na 00-01 model? malaki at malapad naman silang tignan... at 00-01 model pa... mahina ba power dahil 1.3 lang...
    meron bang 1.5? just wondering...
