January 27th, 2010 02:33 PM #2helow gahis, there are many reason why your accord overheats.
1) Fans defective
if your fans are busted , your can visually check
2) Thermoswitch that activates the fan are defective
these is the switch that monitors the temperature of your coolant, normally it turns on the fan at around 82deg C.
3) Thermostat valve that control your water flow is defective.
If the thermostat valve is busted, it will not open, thereby blocking flow of coolant. Also if the mechanic wnat to remove the valve, please have it replace with a new one, dont run without a valve. It is a protection of your engine to stabilize the temperature.
4) water pump is defective. to check, run system with out the valve, you ca see if if there is flow.
5) head gasket is leaking
To check this, from cold start, with in 30 sec, please check if your water hose are hard with pressure. This indicate that the pressure in you cylinder escapes to the cooling water system.
6) no coolant in the system.
After fixing all that, please use honda or equivalent coolant. This is recommended because coolant has higher boiling point, and better heat transfer.
I hope this could help.
