Oh well. The 2018 Camry will have a brand new 300hp V6. It'll be in my short list of V6 sedans.

The big question is will the new Camry have the same sportiness and handling as an Accord, Passat or Mazda6.

The answer is a predictable no, but the market doesn't care. There are enough players in the sporty midsize sedan field, what Toyota is answering is the bigger chunk of people who look for other things in their cars.

No point in sportiness when 99% of the time, I'm commuting to work or going to the mall. Worse, I'm twiddling my thumbs in bumper to bumper traffic.

Now, If I was charging up the curves of nearby Mt. Lemmon in winter when there is some snow, that would make good use of car handling.

Anywhere else in city streets, sporty handling would only come into play when I'm breaking the law.

^^^ Very true on both points. Nobody can dispute the fact that the Camry is America's best-selling car. However, buyers of midsize cars tend to keep some sense of loyalty with their model of choice. The Accord has always been Honda's marquee model in the US and it has always received warm reviews across its long line of model generations.

If I am in the US, I maybe be enticed to entertain the Fusion Sport AWD as a family midsize car.

That is true. I want to replace my 2006 3.3L V6 Sonata with another V6 Sonata. But, there aren't any new ones. So, I'm forced to look elsewhere.

The V6 Camry, V6 Nissan Altima, and V6 Nissan Maxima are my leading choices for a replacement sedan, assuming my wife doesn't insist on a minivan.

It's a shame though. The V6 Accord was my leading candidate.

Only NA options for you? No thoughts of getting one with a turbo engine?

The midsize sedan has always been the vehicle of choice for most families in North America. However, CUVs have started to eat up a portion of the sales of the midsize cars and established themselves as the new family utility vehicle.

I had a turbocharged 4-cylinder Diamond Star back in the 90's. I moved to V6s and love it.

I'm abusive with my cars and I think only larger displacement engines can take my abuse. My turbo DS had a 4G63-T engine and the original required an overhaul at 100k miles and finally died at 167k miles. In the meantime, the Lambda 3.3L V6 of my 2006 Hyundai Sonata V6 is still going strong and it's approaching 200k miles. Mostly still original.

I would consider a turbo if it's a Miata-sized car. For example, a turbo Civic or a Focus RS would be fine. Not much weight. For a people-mover like a CUV or sedan? Heck, no.

I'll go back to turbo coupes when all my kids move out and I have no need for a family vehicle. Heck, I might buy me something like this.

How about the Fusion AWD Sport? It does come with a twin-turbo direct-injected V6 engine. Or maybe the German mid-trim midsize turbo 6-cylinder sedans (Audi A6/S6, BMW 540i, Merc E43)?
