November 9th, 2009 07:17 PM #2locally, for the sedan, there is only the SiR model which have a DOHC engine. everything else has a SOHC engine. of course, some of the 2nd hand models being sold in the market had already undergone engine transplant.
for the FD model (2006-present), one model is equipped with the 2.0 DOHC engine.

SOHC or DOHC really doesn't make much difference except in how expensive the car is to produce. Most modern SOHC and DOHC engines have 4 valves per cylinder. They all make similar amounts of power.
Traditionally, it has been easier to run four-valve and five-valve heads with DOHC, and easier to implement variable cam lift with DOHC.
Honda's SOHC R18 engines already have VTEC, though... and the R18 makes more power than any other 1.8 on the market in the same class. The only thing that you can't do properly is smooth variable cam phasing (tuning the overlap of the intake and exhaust valves against each other)... but the R18 doesn't suffer at all from this lack compared to the Corolla 1.8. Same goes for the engines in the City and Jazz. The variable phasing does give the Toyota engines a little more low-down power and pick-up, but generally, this has always been the difference between Toyota and Honda engines... even before Toyota started using VVTi. Toyota engines have better low-rpm pickup, where Honda engines have better high-rpm power.
All Honda's L-engines (City, Jazz) and R-engines (Civic 1.8, CR-V 2.0) are SOHC. The K-series (Civic 2.0, CR-V 2.4, Accord) are DOHC. The V6 is SOHC.Last edited by niky; November 9th, 2009 at 10:17 PM.
