9-year-old bridge already needs replacement — DPWH | Inquirer News

The 30-month closure of a bridge connecting the cities of Makati and Mandaluyong, which is set to start this month, can affect about 40,000 vehicles daily, diverting them to inner streets and aggravating traffic conditions.

In a hearing held on Wednesday by the House committee on Metro Manila development, Director Virgilio Castillo of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) explained why Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge already needed replacement even though it was opened only nine years ago.

Castillo gave Sept. 20 as the tentative date of the closure, but said it could still be moved as the DPWH was still in talks with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to come up with better traffic management plans addressing the expected gridlock.

is it being closed, because it is now weaker and has to be strengthened?
or is it being closed, to make it wider?

according don sa news.. weak na din daw.. so totally tatanggalin and papalitan nang bago.. gagawing 4 lanes.. so dapat baguhin din nila yung streets connecting the bridge.. dapat 4 lanes na din.. otherwise magiging bottleneck na naman yan.. 2 lanes ang one way nang bridge tapos single lane lang pag baba..

This is such a hassle for everyone using this bridge and the Makati-Mandaluyong one.

Dapat maglaan muna sila ng alternative route na matino bagong ipasara yan.

    i can see it now.
    magla-laan ng alternative temporary bridge.
then, after the new bridge opens...
"let's not close down the alternative bridge. let's keep it in service."
    heh heh.

Maybe they are "widening" the bridge to get rid of the squatters that lived between the bridge and Acqua Residences...

if that is the intent, then it will backfire.
they are simply re-locating them to a new, enlarged apartment, under the bridge's anchorage.
    heh heh.

"Less than a decade old." "Funded by China." "Torn down completely."

Not very reassuring words those. And it has to start just when the Christmas Rush is upon us. Hmmm....

"The two-lane bridge will have to be torn down completely and replaced by a new, four-lane structure costing P1.4 billion, he added.

The Estrella-Pantaleon was one of the two bridge projects on the Pasig River — the other being the Binondo-Intramuros span in Manila — \that would be funded by China based on development assistance agreements with the Duterte administration."

The properties covered up with bamboo poles on the left side of the video are occupied by SQUATTERS between the road and Acqua Residence.

that does not mean, the property is not owned by someone who has to be compensated, should the property be expropriated...

Could be owned by the goverment since it's considered an easement between the bridge and Acqua Residence.

Yung masaya diyan will be Century Properties, developer ng Acqua Residenc. Tataas lalo yung presyo ng property when they get rid of the squatters. Going rate of their units was 145k per unit...

the property was already there, even before the bridge was even a pipe dream.
perhaps the government already expropriated it when they constructed the bridge years ago...?
or perhaps it is still owned by the same private entity as before..?
